The rundown:

Name: Roger Federer
Born: August 8, 1981
Career prize money: $45,616,957
Career record: 634-153
Career titles: 57
Grand Slam wins: 13

Good choice? Up until last year's Wimbledon, Roger Federer was the hottest tennis player on the planet. Then, Federer took on Rafael Nadal in a modern day marathon of a match in the finals, losing to the Spaniard in a classic hard-fought match. Nadal beat Federer again in the finals at this year's Australian Open, so you have to wonder if the Swiss's best days are behind him.

--

Name: John McEnroe
Born: February 16, 1959
Career prize money: $12,547,797
Career record: 875-198
Career titles: 99
Grand Slam wins: 7

Good choice? Even more than 16 years after his retirement, John McEnroe is still one of those most recognizable names in the tennis, thanks in large part to his natural charisma and frequent television appearances. His tantrums made him a divisive figure during his heyday but few would doubt his ability or contribution to the sport. His cameo in the last season of HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm didn't hurt either...

--

Name: Serena Williams
Born: September 26, 1981
Career prize money: $23,978,104
Career record: 420-88
Career titles: 33
Grand Slam wins: 10

Good choice? Frankly, how could you not include Serena? Though she has struggled off and on with injury over the years, Serena is still the most recognizable female tennis player in the world, known as much for her ferocious serves and skillful baseline play as she is her sometimes outrageous court attire. Unlike the her male Grand Slam Tennis cover counterparts, Serena has won all four Grand Slam titles at least once and an Australian Open win this year has re-cemented her reputation as the game's premiere celebrity.
