Counter-Strike: Global Offensive landing August 21

E3 2012: Valve confirms downloadable Hidden Path-developed entry in shooter series will arrive fall after missing its planned early 2012 release window.

Valve today announced that its upcoming downloadable action title Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will arrive on the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, and Steam (for PC and Mac) on August 21, 2012.

CS:GO will arrive on August 21 on Steam, XBLA, and PSN.

According to Valve, CS:GO will be sold for approximately $15 on all platforms.

Developed by Valve in cooperation with Seattle-based Hidden Path Entertainment, CS:GO will feature new game modes, weapons, maps, and characters for the franchise. Additionally, gamers will be able to fight on updated versions of original Counter-Strike maps (including de_dust), and Global Offensive will support matchmaking and leaderboards.

The Counter-Strike franchise has sold more than 25 million units in a little over 12 years. Global Offensive is currently in development at Valve Software and Hidden Path Entertainment, which also codeveloped 2004's Counter-Strike: Source.

To bad the console player's can't see a game using high end graphic cards ( which cost more than a full blown top of the line console ) in a high end PC, but I guess when they are sleeping a dream is better than nothing.

I still can't see it doing too well.

Classic Casual, which i assume is supposed to get newer players into the game, barely does anything besides making a one-hit-kill knife that's only good for one shot purchasable, which still leaves CS to be the closest thing to real-world CQB as a game can get.

That said, i imagine that accessibility is a double edged sword.  You make even the slightest change to favor a new player base, and the CS veteran would complain.  At the same time, you can't exactly have the new players beg on their fucking knees for a cover system.

I wish they would reboot with highend graphics as a launch title for next gen.  3d, 9.2 channel audio just make it a technical masterpiece as the classic gameplay is already in place.  For $15 I bet they'd move a bunch of copies from people needing new games to play with their pocket books hurting from a new console purchase.  Maybe Valve could even show off their dev tools for licensing. Games are always scarce around console launches.

Hopefully there is a bit more to this than a couple new game modes and shinier graphics.  I bet it will just be a facelift of Source more or less though.

Interesting to finally see the new CS game & the selling price isn't bad. But Valve seriously give some news on some other games especially the one containing a Dr Freeman.

Got in the beta for this; I'm really enjoying it so far.  I think they need to refine some of the aiming mechanics a bit, but I think it has a TON of potential.

Between this and DoTA2 I don't think I'll really need anything else installed on my computer.  Valve is poised to dominate the competitive PC Gaming scene between these two titles.

This game will have pay to play content. Portal 2 has it so does TF2. Thats why the game is so cheap.
