The trick-or-treating season is being extended through the holidays this year, thanks to Double Fine Productions. The studio today unveiled Grubbins on Ice, the first downloadable content for its Halloween-themed Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game Costume Quest.

Set for release next month, the Grubbins on Ice add-on will include an all-new adventure that picks up after the original game's conclusion. With their town free from the candy-stealing grubbins, Lucy and Everett brave the snow-covered streets in search of evidence that they ever truly existed. The search takes the pair (along with pals Wren and Reynold) into another world, where they once again must go door-to-door looking for candy and fending off grubbins.

The pirate costume will let gamers shiver their timbers in a winter wonderland.

In addition to the setting, Grubbins on Ice will introduce new costumes to the game. Staples from the original game like the robot and ninja outfits will be joined by newcomers like a pirate costume, a track suit, and an eyeball. Double Fine has also said it will address some performance issues with the original game and include new features like save points (so players don't have to rely on the autosave system) and pausing during cutscenes.
