Battlefront has announced a new game in the Combat Mission series, Combat Mission: Afrika Korps. The new game is based on a modified version of the engine used in the previous game in the series, Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin. Some of the new features include dust clouds and multiturreted vehicles.

Afrika Korps is a hybrid turn-based/real-time strategy game that focuses on three main theaters of combat during World War II: North Africa, Italy, and Crete. Seven nations are represented in Afrika Korps, including Germany, Britain, the United States, and Italy, each with complete tables of organization and equipment. The combat capabilities of each vehicle and weapon are modeled with realism in mind; the game will even include sophisticated algorithms to calculate armor penetration when a round strikes a vehicle. Weather and terrain are also key factors in the battle design of the Combat Mission games. Units use line of sight as well as sound cues to determine the position of enemy troops. Occasionally, enemy units will even be misidentified by your troops, simulating the confusion of battle.

We'll post more information on Combat Mission: Afrika Korps as it becomes available. In the meantime, enjoy the first screenshots of the game.
