Cole Train Actor Says He’ll Reprise His Role in Next Gears of War

You can’t stop the Cole Train!

by

Update: Speight is now backing off of his original statement. After originally responding "Yup!" in response to a question about whether he'd "gotten a call" about reprising his role, he has followed up with another tweet, stating, "Let me clear up misunderstanding. I'm willing to reprise my roll [sic] as Cole Train but I HAVEN'T BEEN CONTACTED YET, STOP!!! NO MORE RUMORS!!!"

Original Story: Lester Speight, the actor who voiced Augustus “Cole Train” Cole in the previous Gears of War games, has said that he’s been approached to reprise his role.

Speight made the announcement in response to a question from a fan on Twitter.

He didn’t share any additional details about the game, but the only Gears of War in development that we know of is the one being made by the Microsoft-owned Black Tusk Studios.

Last we heard, the next Gears of War project was still in “the concept/prototype” phase. Black Tusk producer Rod Fergusson, who worked on previous Gears of War titles, is leading development on the project. He previously said that now that Microsoft owns the IP, it can do a lot more with it. He also said that Black Tusk will try stay true to Gears of War canon for its new game, but he made it clear that the studio won't have any reservations about deviating if it's in the interest of fun.

Unless Speight has misspoken, now we know it will feature at least one returning character.

He’s impossible to forget if you've played the game, but in case you didn't, Cole Train is a former Thrashball player, a football-like sport in the Gears of War fiction. After Emergence Day, when the human species is attacked by the Locust, he becomes a Gear soldier and joins the war effort.

There's no release date or even a title for the new Gears of War game for Xbox One, and Microsoft did not showcase the game at E3 last month.

Cole Train made these games worth it. He was the most human character by far, especially in the third game.

Better a rehashed shooter with updated graphics for the NextGen consoles than more kiddie indie games suited for iphones.

'Next Gears of War' are you kidding me? Another bland, generic, lethargic, casual rail-way third person shooter? People still buy this crap?

The original Gears of War was a great game for its time, but I hate how it resulted in 75% of action games becoming cover-based shooters.

I never cared for any of the Gears of War sequels. The mechanics of the game were already stale at that point, thanks to all of the clones that came out, plus the story and characters in Gears of Wars games were always terrible, even from the beginning.

What am I doing here, biting the click bait so I can post a comment stating that I don't care?

That's awesome news, Cole is an amazing character!!
I'll never forget the scene in the novels where he's writing a letter to his Momma (who's long gone ;_;)

Also, Gears of War 3 will be reprising it's role in the series.

The Cole Train runs on whole grain baby, WHOO!

That's my favourite Cole line. Anyway I just hope the next Gears game is good and not a huge let down.

Uh oh... I wonder who that reminds me of... *cough343coughindustriescoughhalobuyoutcough* Yeah. That's going to end well. And yes, I'm still bitter over what Halo's being turned into. I'd rather not see it in Gears of War too. It'd be a travesty. Gears was a masterpiece. Gears of War: Judgment was okay. And now they want to deviate from canon because Microsoft MAY want to. LEAVE IT ALONE. You risk series fatigue syndrome.

I'm not usually negative in my comments but this is just garbage. Even Lester Speight might not be enough to save this, given the chance. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he'll be there, but one man can only do so much.

I knew it ! Get ready xb0ts because soon all you're gonna get is freaking Gears of war and Halo every year,just like on the 360.

I always got the feeling that Cliffy B was living vicariously through Gears. It's what he wanted to be but couldn't so he "created" a testosterone fest. At least he didn't take steroids to try and become that, or so it seems. But we get more brotastic, testosterone, steroid filled mayhem even if Cliff had nothing to do with it.

Why not a new IP, this is like flogging a dead horse.

GOW was a trilogy.

@wEEman33 The novels say otherwise. They should've put more character development and story into the games because the novels are full of it, and lots of lore

@Starbound571 What's wrong with what Halo has been turned into? If you are referring to Halo 4, it was 343's first actual game, they tried something different. Some things I didn't like and other things I loved but it was not as horrible as people cry out. They said they will be making Halo 5 more like how Halo 2 and Halo 3 were like.

@Sun-Tzu-GE lolno, all the halos were at least 3 years apart, and all the gears games were at least 3 years apart. Ignorant much?

@Sun-Tzu-GE Nah not really bud, but nice try. The Xbox is getting plenty of exclusives and new IP's. Keep bitching about nothing.

@Sun-Tzu-GE About like killzone and uncharted on the playstation.The only difference is halo and gears crushed those games every release

@Hellcanwait  Well, it doesn't come out every year, or even every two years. And you can't blame them for wanting to make money on an almost sure thing. Don't get me wrong, I hate what COD and AC are doing but at least Gears doesn't follow that format.

@world4games Whatever you need to tell yourself… Meanwhile the rest of us who aren't jaded will be enjoying some fantastic games.

@daikkenaurora12 Of course us "Xb0ts" will buy it. Gears of War was a fantastic series, excluding Judgement. I am excited to continue the series.

@tightwad34

No other game series started out by claiming to be a trilogy, GOW was meant to be a trilogy from the very first game.

Epic games did the trilogy, Black tusk the 4. and it was a horrible GOW game, it was a GOW game only by name and Black tusk are now making GOW 5.

Comparing GOW to something worse is pointless and it doesn't make the dicision to make a 5th installment any better.

TabularBeast
TabularBeast

@Hellcanwait Black Tusk didn't make Gears 4(which is called Judgement) though. Judgement was made by People Can Fly. Black Tusk is an all new studio that is now taking up the responsibility on making the new Gears game.

@TabularBeast

Black tusk made Microsoft flight and a kinect game game before working on GOW5. ( I'd post a link if GS would allow it )

apparently the full story wasn't told in the trilogy, but it seems like the future of this franchise is in capable hands...

@TabularBeast

It doesn't change the fact that GOW was a trilogy.

TabularBeast
TabularBeast

@Hellcanwait Well regardless of what they have made previously, this is a new game for them. They have the executive producer and director from the trilogy so I have hope they will do the series justice. If you are that salty about a new game following the trilogy well just forget about it. The game is coming out whether you want it to or not. I, and many others, are excited to get a new Gears of War game and continue the series.

TabularBeast
TabularBeast

@Hellcanwait Yes, Gears was a trilogy. What's the point? Black Tusk will be making Gears of War 4 or Lazarus I think it will be called. People Can Fly made Judgement, which was the 4th iteration in the series but not be confused with Gears of War 4.
