Check Out 22 Minutes of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain Gameplay Footage

Konami releases full video from Gamescom, which teases multiplayer.

If you missed the extended Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain gameplay demo from a special presentation at Gamescom last week, you're in luck, as Konami has now published the full, 22-minute video.

The video shows Snake sneaking into an enemy base (complete with smarter, more adaptive enemies), and reveals that the world will be populated by various wildlife. Animals like wolves might attack you, so you'll always need to be on guard.

Finally, the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain video shows off what appears to be the game's multiplayer mode. At around the 17-minute mark, we see Snake entering another player's base. We see that players can outfit their bases with all sorts of high-tech traps and gadgetry. The clip culminates with Snake being confronted by a character who appears identical to him.

During Gamescom, Kojima revealed that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and prologue Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes are coming to PC. Official release dates were not announced, but Ground Zeroes will come first.

wait how does that cardboard box in the middle of the road fit in? and a balloon that lifts a jeep? horse poop that causes a jeep to crash? this looks stupid.

Do a game-play video without using the X ray or last chance slow-mo, to show how immersing and amazing this game really is.

...still 16 minutes longer than Ground Zeros.

Why do people keep referring to the Fulton Recovery System as a parachute? I'm pretty sure a balloon isn't a parachute, or is it people just don't care what it is really called?

Is this demo really on a PS4?  The graphics look suspiciously too good.  I bet the final version won't look as good as this.

So in this stealth game it is okay to be stood in the middle of nowhere smoking away for several hours of a day without being seen once?

What if you don't jump off the flying crate?

P.S. Can these parachutes lift a house? What about the planet???

Wow, this game has been advertised for a couple years now and it's still the same old gameplay trailer.  Jeez.............

What I fear is that every mission will be the same.

Is this a joke? When did they turn MGS into a comedy series?

Why is it that when I watch this video on Youtube later, it will play at HD resolution smoothly, but when I try to watch it here on low settings, it jitters like an epileptic having an orgasm? Seriously, "Go...ok stop........go again.........ok stop....slowly.....no, stop again". It's like anal with my wife.

I hate the parachute thing, it's so dumb that no one can see it and how it can just lift up everything. The whole point of taking out guards is there are consequences, I want the return of having to hide their bodies, just just making them vanish...

I'm not impressed, but then again Grounds Zeroes was rather boring too, considering the MGSV PP gameplay is based on that.......... might pass.

The things horse poop can do lol

This looks pretty fantastic, though imo they need to limit the amount of uses for the Fulton Recovery System, I get that you pay money for each use, but I think it would be better to be able to buy them before a mission and have a set limit as to how much you can carry.

Stop teasing me with all these videos and just give me a release date!!!  I can't stand it anymore!!  ;A;

The parachuting stuff... can't decide if it KILLS the whole game or makes it so much better.

I'll have to admit, the attention to detail is pretty staggering.

I just hope they fix the psychic guards from GZ, try playing it with reflex mode off and you will understand what I mean.

Awesome and all, but can we have a bit of mystery? Before the game launches, I'll probably be just as familiar with it as if I've played the whole game.

Looks excellent, but the whole thing with invading other player's bases seems a little questionable to me. I don't want the game to focus entirely on defending my base against griefers.

@nurnberg Well Ground Zeroes looked great on the PS4 and Phantom Pain will be using the same engine. Don't see why it can't be possible to look as good as in the video, but hopefully they don't downgrade it.

@Dannystaples14

So you want to play a game where you have to find a real secure place, hide and wait for HOURS for real? (And after a few hours in the same position, you might have to move around, stretch yourself and possibly having to find another more comfortable secure place to hide in. Is that the game you wanna play?)

Obviously, some of the mechanisms are to enhance gameplay by removing the tedious details that you'd have to deal with in the real world.  That's because, you know what, this is a game.

@blackbetty1974 I LOL'ed.  10/10 would read again.  It does the same thing to me.  Maybe GameSpot doesn't play nice with Chrome?

@Ripper_TV

You can opt NOT to use the parachuting; you're not forced to use it.

luert

@Ripper_TV yeah also what's the point of having character adapt to you to make things harder when they don't react to the screams of the guards when they are taken away with the parachute jesus

@dysonlu @Dannystaples14 When I watched it I was also thinking that enemies should still be able to spot you while the time passes.  I'm not saying you should have to do loads of work to stay out of sight, but at least just sit down behind a rock or back off a bit where the terrain is hiding you.  I don't want the entire world to be still running while time passes, but say there are patrol routes along the perimeter, those should still be able to spot you if you are out in the open and too close during that sequence.

Ripper_TV
Ripper_TV

@dysonlu @Ripper_TV Yeah? While people using it get all sorts of bonuses?

@luert @Ripper_TV

You new to MGS?  Are you gonna tell me the cardboard box doesn't make sense either?

macboypro
macboypro

Hmm. You could always hide behind a rock if it makes you feel super incognito? Might get tedious though, given how vast and beautiful the terrain is. It's simply a mechanic that allows the passage of time. Being able to watch time pass is quite nice on the eyes. Also, it seems the enemies are more focused on what they're guarding, not wilderness around them, so I don't see a reason to criticise that...

Ripper_TV
Ripper_TV

@dysonlu @luert @Ripper_TV You know what? Cardboard is not AS extreme as focking parachuting the whole base with the cars and tanks! This just takes the focking cake. I would be alright with the cardboard (which we agree is super ridiculous in itself), but this is borderline insane.

Kojima's explanation for parachuting? NANOMACHINES!

dysonlu

@luert @dysonlu @Ripper_TV

And I expressed why I disagree with you.  That's what a discussion is for.

dysonlu

@Ripper_TV @dysonlu @luert

This is a game with giant robots, cyborgs, vampires, etc. for crying out loud.  What is parachuting in that context?  No big deal.

Besides, I'm pretty sure in real game play, you won't/can't be using it that often.  Since this is a gameplay demo, they are using it more often to showcase it.
