Carmack Discusses the Xbox

John Carmack praises the Xbox and expects to see the next Doom game on Microsoft's upcoming console.

John Carmack, co-founder of id Software, recently reiterated his support for the Microsoft Xbox and inferred that the development of the next Doom game for the Xbox remains a strong possibility.

"Last I heard, nvidia was going to be providing OpenGL for Xbox. If it does, we will probably do some simultaneous development [of Doom] for the Xbox," Carmack said on the Slashdot.org message board. "If not, it would have to wait until after the game ships to be ported."

He went on to discuss the next-generation consoles briefly, saying that the Xbox is a larger leap technologically over the Sony PlayStation 2 than the PS2 is over the Sega Dreamcast. He continued to praise Microsoft's console by saying, "I don't have much of a personal stake in [the so-called console wars], but I am pulling for Xbox. If you need to pick a feudal lord in the console market, I would take Microsoft over Sony, Sega, or Nintendo any day."
