Captain America mobilizing July 19

Sega picks Tuesday before filmic tie-in for release of patriotic Super Soldier action adventure; 3DS version added, PSP game canceled.

by

Film-goers have known for literally years at this point that they can expect Captain America: The First Avenger to arrive on the silver screen on July 22. From this release date, perceptive gamers could surmise that Sega would deliver its game tie-in Captain America: Super Soldier on or about that July day, and now the publisher has confirmed that fact.

Surprising fact: Captain America's cranium wings are not load-bearing.

Today, Sega announced that Captain America: Super Soldier will arrive on the Tuesday before its theatrical counterpart, hitting the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, and DS on July 19. Sega has also tinkered with the game's platforms, having canceled the previously announced PSP edition but stating that a 3DS version will also arrive on July 19.

Super Soldier will offer an original storyline based on the Captain America film, which stars Chris Evans (Fantastic Four), Tommy Lee Jones (No Country for Old Men), and Samuel L. Jackson (Iron Man 2). Harking back to the comic franchise's roots, Nazis will be the target of Captain America's ire, as the shield-wielding hero squares off against his archnemesis, Red Skull, in an effort to stop the evil machinations of the scientist Arnim Zola.

Beginning during the height of WWII, the third-person action adventure will be set in a sprawling castle complex and will feature foes from the comic books, including the Iron Cross and members of the terrorist group HYDRA. Gameplay will have an emphasis on hand-to-hand combat involving the superhero's indestructible shield as well as platforming sequences.

I'd think they would know how to play the game they made, but this actually looks good, I'll wait for the reviews before I jump the gun though, I'm smarter than to let myself get another crappy Sega game without seeing what others have to think after it's released.

The movie will be an epic fail, this game will be another Fantastic Four dud of a game.

That video doesn't make me excited about the game.

Yeah, I'm sure this will be a really deep, well-developed game that in no way is a lazy shameless corner-cutting cash-in on the film, like every other movie tie-in game that is released before the actual film...oh wait... Plus, Captain American is such a lame character - all those nausea-inducing patriotic overtones. The only superhero more boring than Cap is Superman.

Combat controls look awkward, though i do think the slow mo hitting is quite kool but can probably be quite annoying after a while. This game looks like another crappy movie tie in game. I do have one question - do devs actually make any money from these games?? I mean are u telling me people actually spend 30-40 quid on an extremely poor to average game that probably last for about 2-3 hours.

Oh Dear.. Captain America never did seem to kick off all that much in the UK compared to other characters. Maybe it's his over-patriotic name.. I'd like to think the film would be good.. But I won't hold my breath.. Mostly because it's in July.

This looks completely horrible! C'mon this could have been done on the PS2! There is nothing interesting about this game. But the Movie should be good though.

Capcom should be the only one developing Marvel games. They're the only ones who can do it right... *looking at Activision*

Well the gameplay looked all right, definitely some cool animations in there mixed in with some really bad ones and some awful looking controls. I have nothing but low expectations for this one. Ah well if it doesn't do well then... FINAAAAAAAAAL JUUUUSSTICE!!!! on Sega for screwing it up yet again.

i think its best not to come out from sega because it wont sell like it did with hulk and iron man games even pp lose there job so sega set to lose more money to waste

They could've put Captain America on the NGP instead. But maybe it is best that the game was cancelled. The Captain America movie could bomb at the box office. The Iron man games were not the greatest.

Man, I hope the game is decent. Most movie tie in games SUCK. But there's been exceptions: Batman,Aladdin,Demolition Man,Cronicles of Riddick e.t.c.

I made a mistake and bought Iron Man. Great graphics. The rest was ... unexplainable.

that almost sounded like Chris Evans too - it looks like your typical superhero game...I'm not sure I'm impressed...

Development of a crappy Captain America game should be considered an act of treason.

The last two movies games with the Sega sticker on it was Hulk and Iron Man, both of them were so bad I wanted to slash my wrists with the game manuals after five minutes of playing. I honestly can't see how this game will be good at all...

Wow a DS and a 3DS version. Let me guess the Cap's Shield will be the only thing in 3D.

The last good Marvel movie game was Spider-Man 2 and that was 7 years ago and the last good Marvel game was The Incredible Hulk.

Graphics look like crap, Fighting could be so much better if it wasnt so evasive. The entire fight is based on counters, It would have been so much better if they used a spin off of what Arkham Asylum used for their combat system. Voice acting ,based on the short scene, is poor as well.

Wow, that video doesn't look half bad. It looks like a competent action game. Could this be Sega's first good movie tie in game? Thor, their other one, looks dreadful, but this actually looks decent. I may have to try it when it ships.
