Capcom teases Okami announcement for next week

"Please look forward to it," says Okami Twitter account.

Capcom's Japanese Twitter account for Okami appears to be teasing an upcoming announcement.

“Sorry I’ve been kind of out of touch lately," said the account (translated by Gematsu), "but I have the feeling we’ll be able to drop a fresh announcement like WHAM! around the beginning of Golden Week, so please look forward to it. Right now we’re on track with preparations.”

Golden Week is a holiday period in Japan that runs from April 29 to May 5, and Gematsu also points out that the latest issue of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu is teasing an announcement for its issue due out May 9.

Okami was an action adventure title helmed by Devil May Cry and Bayonetta director Hideki Kamiya, originally released by Capcom for the PlayStation 2 in 2006. The cult title has seen subsequent re-releases on the Wii in 2008 and PlayStation 3 in 2012.

A Nintendo DS semi-sequel, Okamiden, was also released in 2011.

Hope it's what we're all expecting, an Okami sequel. Can't wait again to fry my little retinas (brain) in all Okami's glorious color frenzy orgy.

If it's a new Okami game it would be cool but please Capcom don't ruin it, you have done enough damage.

I've bought all three versions of Okami (the Wii version was for someone else). The announcement of Okamiden was a major disappointment for me. The PS3 re-release was one of my most sought after games of the past year. I don't think there's one game I've played more than Okami.

My point: I'm finding it very difficult not to get excited for what this may be about.

If they make a remake, I hope it is for iOS or the Wii U as the touchscreen would be a great fit. That said, a new game would be great.

Wait, I'm lost here. Is it supposed to be a sequel or remake of some sort? Or is that indecipherable? I'm gonna lean towards remake for now just to avoid disappointment.

I should really finish the first game and actually take Okamiden out of its shrink wrap someday. lol I hope it's good news though,

Really loved Okami back on the ps2! Probably the last great Japanese game I played (I don't own a ps3 so can't play metal gear). If it's for next gen it may well guide my choice of console as I always go for the one with the best game library! Am i missing out on any Japanese classics from the past few years?

Okami! Maybe this will motivate me to buy the other games, as I haven't invested in them yet.  I am looking forward to another announcement. Anyone else not played Okami yet but excited for a new game?

A sequel for consoles would be nice. Hopefully it isn't another handheld game or HD remaster or remake.

So can we have a Golden week in USA where all of the good JP games are surprise translated and shipped to the US? :)

No? Aw.

I'm hoping for a new Okami, but at the same time, I'm not sure I want some other studio to ruin my memories of the original.

If the announcement is that they've hired Hideki Kamiya to make Okami 2, I will probably be the happiest man on earth.

Another re-release / port? Meh. A full-blown entry in the series (under the current Capcom business model)? Shudder. A mobile / facebook game? Vomit. Unless the news is "we've sold the Okami IP to Platinum Games", I'm not holding my breath.

since clover studios closed right after the first game, and a half assed sequel was released on a system I don't have, I sure hope a lot

'Okami HD port to PSVita' immediately comes to mind. The game was made to be played on that system. It's absolutely perfect for it.

PLEASE, Capcom, make it happen. I never had the chance to finish the Wii version, something that's been nagging at me for years now. And I never owned a PS2/PS3. BRING THIS TO VITA NAO!

(And for bonus points, an Okamiden remake would be welcome, too.)

Honestly, I'd be happy with just an Okamiden 3DS port. They didn't print nearly enough copies of the original.

I've been playing Okami HD for a few hours now and I should admit, I'm not impressed at all. I love action adventures and RPGs, but this game haven't given me anything worthwhile yet. I'm solely playing it because of the hype now.

Will it get better or is this all it has? To be honest I was expecting something comparable to Legend of Zelda, but this is nowhere close to it. Yet, at least. I hope it gets fun, or maybe its art style is not my cup of tea. Could be.

PlatinumPaladin
PlatinumPaladin

@lex_in_the_moon I thought Okamiden was a kind of remake. Whether or not that's the case, a remake doesn't seem worthwhile. Bottom-line: we haven't a clue. We'll just have to be patient.

Leboyo56
Leboyo56

@-SpikyBlueHero- I strongly think Okami would be unfitting on the Vita. I was rather angry Okamiden was a DS-exclusive, since I think the scale of the adventure doesn't seem right confined on such a small screen.

GameYakuza
GameYakuza

@DuaMn I loved Okami because I first expected a short, gimmicky game. then something awesome happened: when I defeated what I thought was the end boss, the game went on... and went on, giving me incredible reinterpretations of classic japanese tales one after another. my final playtime was 65 hours, and I replayed it since. sure, the combat is a bit lacking, but the exploration, the characters, the story make a better zelda like than zelda games have been for the last 10 years.

@DuaMn  You have just touched the tip of the iceberg. Keep playing until you finish the game and see for yourself what amazing experience it has to offer!

krayzie88
krayzie88

@lightleggy I meant for the ps or xbox consoles. And okamiden is more a prequel than sequel

Leboyo56
Leboyo56

@GameYakuza @DuaMn Agreed, I'd take a console Okami sequel over another Legend of Zelda any day. It's my second favorite game, and I was legitimately sad when I 100% completed it on the PS3, knowing there was nothing left to do with it.

finaleve

@Gigawattblade @krayzie88 Okamiden is more like filler.  Not really a sequel nor a prequel.  Just... there.  Decent game, but it is hard to go up against it's own.
