Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Trailer Sets up the Story, Offers a Glimpse of Multiplayer

Today's trailer fleshes out what we know about the story and teases a multiplayer reveal on August 11.

The newest trailer for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was released by Activision today, and this one focuses on the story of the game's campaign mode.

After opening up with an Abraham Lincoln quote about testing someone's character by giving him or her power, a voice explains the details of "the first global terrorist attack in history." This sends the "world into chaos," and with the United States government and military "crippled," the country turns to a private military company, Atlas. This is the company run by Jonathan Irons, the character played by actor Kevin Spacey.

We see how Atlas is given a tremendous amount of power, resulting in Irons arguing that Atlas can take military action without the consent of Congress--which later in the trailer leads to the phrase "power changes everything."

At the end of the video, we get a brief look at the game's multiplayer component before it's teased that the multiplayer world premiere is coming on August 11. Little about the multiplayer mode is known, but we have heard it will include the future tech featured so prominently in Advanced Warfare's campaign.

What do you make of the new trailer? Do you, like me, suddenly find yourself much more interested in the game? Let us know in the comments.

It looks like a solid mix of Call of Duty, Crysis, and Halo.  I personally can't wait to see more.  That MP footage looked pretty cool.

Are the Halo Jumps good for the MP or not ? How was it in Halo ?

multiplayer gaming is dead on consoles, the player pools are thinned out so much by a flooded platform with too many cods and dlc.

and it just gets worse and worse with each installment, those that got to play cod 4, world at war and mw2,  you got to enjoy multiplayer when online ran well and there plenty of players online, same goes for fifa, nba, and battlefield, people scattered everywhere and nothing has been done to improve connection, only thing that has improve is profit margin from these greedy business model, dlc, microtransaction etc.

now, too many titles, too many dlc's and another two consoles, good luck trying to find a game with good connection and runs well.

oh my god, just when i though cod could not get worse, they go and copy halo.

Story seems to be deeper than other COD games.. And the new tech showed in the game looks awesome... I am guessing Single player Campaign will be phenomenal..just like the previous games... Multiplayer will be challenging with all the new toys..

The glimpse of multiplayer, looked like halo jumping going on. Why not just play halo

That actually looked really cool and the grappling brings back fond memories of Quake 2 Runes and Chaos deathmatch. The last shots looked as if they were from the multiplayer part of the game. If they can release a optimized, bug free true PC game and not another console port like Ghost with a real anti-cheat then they may have a hit.

Heh, that ending line in the video seems to sum up Activision's motto quite succinctly.

cliche a plenty. Why do they even make the single player? it hasn't been fun since cod 2

i have high hopes for this game. the last few shooters i've played have disappointed. (ghosts, titanfall, bf4, and the destiny beta)

The story sounds pretty cool, never been a huge fan of COD though.

They better get that MW1 and MW2 feel I they want people to buy their game.

It looks pretty neat, but I wonder if they fixed the single player campaign:

- Enemies re-spawn, like in multi-player, that just makes a joke of the "realistic" tag line and I like to secure areas before I move on to the next... re-appearing enemies make it feel like an old NES game!

 - Corridor design (you must follow the squad... that get boring really fast if your AI allies play the game for you, and I like exploration)

Other than this, I like the crazy setting with the private army type character...

why isn't a continued story from the last one?. But looks really cool. For the people who say it looks the same so does battlefield hardline that they pushed it back after COD. BF hardline  in 2015.

Looks like something new from COD which we haven't seen in a while. Can't wait for the multiplayer trailer next month

should be a good story as long as they don't throw in the cliché plot twist: "atlas was responsible for the global terrorist attack."

Kevin Spacey gave a singular touch to it. In a very "Underwood" way i guess. Looks really good.

@hotwog21 "good look finding a game with a good connection that runs well" - I play multiplayer on Xbox Live daily and never run into a bad connection.

There are plenty of games past and present that take a little something from other games it's not just cod.... So stop your whining you don't like it then why bother coming here complaint just simply don't get it and ignore it all together.

@pnova Why do CoD fanboys have to act like the classic "My dad can beat up your dad" scenario is in place?  It's a video game.  It's not your pal.  It's one of the things that is attempting to gain your business.  Stop acting like there's a war going on about which recent or upcoming FPS comes out on top.  You make yourself sound insecure and immature.

oldtobie

@manoogian Because it's a war.  Read a history book, or the news even.  Shut up with the feminist crap when it's simply wrong.  It's not inequality.  It's fact.

@manoogian Why do there need to be woman? Its the game designers choice, not your choice.

@guitargladiator you played all of these and got disappointed? Then this will disappoint you as well because all the ones you mentioned are great games

guitargladiator
guitargladiator

@fgjnfgh @guitargladiator i think many people were disappointed by All of the titles i just mentioned. ghosts is arguably the worst CoD to date, bf4 was VERY rushed and is still annoyingly buggy to this day. titanfall is lacking content. and destiny while fun, failed to live up to its potential in my opinion (YES I KNOW IT WAS A BETA) but you can learn a lot about a game from its beta.

fgjnfgh
fgjnfgh

@guitargladiator @fgjnfgh CoD's are CoD's right? They are great games that they can keep you engaged for months. Haven't played ghost, but watched a lot of videos on Youtube and live streams on Twitch. Purchased Titanfall and Battlefield 4 on X1 and played Destiny beta. People liked Battlefield a lot, but I am more of CoD kinda guy. Don't  like big maps with too many players and the only mode that was popular there was holding the 5 locations which is the most mode I hate in any FPS MP mode. I am going to sell it soon since I have touched like 3 times. Titanfall is the best MP game for me. Fast and so original. Don't understand why people say it's s bland. I see enough guns, classes, and maps to keep me engaged for months. Loved Destiny beta and this is actually what I wanted from this  game. You get to level up your character in Co-op mode and carry over everything to competitive mode whether they are items you've unlocked or guns. Whatever looting you did pays off in MP. But its MP is so been there done that and no where near Titanfall or Cod and it was kind of slow for me. I am playing Titanfall for MP mode and Destiny for Co-op. Might play Destiny's MP every now and then, but won't be as mush as playing Titanfall

guitargladiator
guitargladiator

@fgjnfgh @guitargladiator the thing about the destiny beta that i wasn't convinced of was the story itself. i'm the kind of person who prefers cutscenes and linear gameplay if it means a stronger narrative. what i saw was a lot of re treading old areas and more of an open world type of story telling where you figure out the lore yourself. i agree that the multiplayer isn't on par with other fps. i will likely play it much less than past games. from bungie. i'm still hopeful it will be a good game though.
