Bungie says lack of Destiny on PC "painful" for gamers

Developer addresses Destiny absence for PC, says, "Obviously, we'd love to be on as many platforms as possible."

by

Bungie's all-new shared-world shooter Destiny has been confirmed for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4, but not PC.

Writer and design director Joseph Staten has acknowledged that this news is "painful" for some gamers, but wouldn't say more about the possibility of the new shooter coming to PC.

"Well, I can't talk about it. I mean, obviously we'd love to be on as many platforms as possible," Staten told GameSpot. "We want to get the game into as many hands as we can. But we're not talking about PC right now. I know it's painful; every time someone asks me that question I can see it in their eyes."

Bungie commented on the possibility of a PC version of Destiny last month, saying "We haven't said yes, and we haven't said no." A PC version of Destiny previously appeared on Bungie's website.

Destiny launches next year published by Activision. For more, check out GameSpot's full conversation with Staten below.

yet another game maker forgets the PC platform and what i has done for gaming as a whole. You think it would be easy for them to release it considering all the versions of the game run off the x86 arch. As people have already mentioned Destiny is a PC game that they have scaled down for the console market because Activision know they have ruined yet another franchise(CoD) and they need a new one too burn out over the lifespan of these 'next gen' machines. Do we all remeber how they ruined The Tony hawks pro skater series by putting our a slightly crapper game year after year until people just didnt buy them anymore, and also how they have done that exact same thing with the Call of Duty series!!!!!!! Its just a shame for poor old bungie, they would have probebly been better off staying with MS and make the game a microsoft exclusive just like what they guys at respawn have done with Titanfall.

Seems The Division will do better as it is getting that pc release. I find it odd that bungie would release the game on 360 and ps3 and ignore the pc. It seems to me that the pc version would do a lot better than those platforms. I for one wont be getting this game unless it gets a pc release because I don't want to play it on an outdated console.

Just like GTA 5, this will obviously be coming to PC.  They just love making PC gamers squeal.

Obviously fixing bug and glitch for console, especially for an online game, is easier.

No doubt they haven't think about PC yet.

Lack of GTA V on PC is the most painful for gamers.

Not on PC? Your loss bungie simple.

Developers can't sit there and say "Best graphics imaginable" when it isn't ported for PC. Fanboy or not, PC graphics will always outbeat console :-\.

People should really put their games on the PC, do the developers not understand how huge the community is?

Maybe he doesn't know what rolling your eyes is and he thought it must mean pain?  That was my only reaction.

I dunno. I would have bought it if it was on PC. I don't understand making shooters and not putting them on PC. Instead we get games like Halo Spartan Assault.

Their only chance of selling me this game would be PC. I won't be getting a next gen console for a year or two after release.

Well i sure won´t buy a new console just for one game so i would prefer this kind of genre in PC anyways, if it doesn´t come to PC then too bad i move on.

Personally, it seems like its just a clever marketing scheme. For all we know, Bungie is getting paid to stay quiet about a PC version to get people hyped up for a game in hopes of giving them more incentive to buy next-gen consoles. All at the same time they get free marketing from the PC fanbase as they beg for it to come to PC. After it releases on consoles, they announce it for PC, getting the hardcore PC players who didn't buy a console to buy it on PC, maximizing their profits. Its actually pretty smart.

I will only buy this game on PC, that or never.

@brandonGerholdt And for the sake of people who played some of the first games you created ON THE PC (actually Mac) like Pathways into Darkness, the whole Marathon series, and Myth series!

@Linkalecious How the hell do you define a 'generic shooter' then? Have you even seen Destiny's gameplay?

incrediblmullet

@RELeon  I agree. They are very shady when asked about it. If it wasn't going to be on PC wouldn't they just say no? Plus they keep talking about the likeness of the new consoles' architecture to PC, so it can't be hard to port. Marketing for next-gen consoles for sure. We will see this game on PC......I really hope.

ezeraph

@RELeon I really hope you are right. Their decision to not release it on PC is only going to affect them in the end.

itriedmanynames
itriedmanynames

@RELeon Also once they announce that the game will be released on PC, then they will get even a bigger hype from the fans and they will win over some strong supporter (fanboys) army marching all over the internet for the glory of the Destiny of the greater good and victory and conquering the world and shit!

olavinto
olavinto

@incrediblmullet @RELeon Don't say port because direct porting is usually bad at least when coming from consoles to PC. PC is the elite and it should have it's own versions that utilize all of the platforms capabilities.

No, really I'd take a simple port any day. I'd also like to get my hands on Halo 3+ games on PC, although that is not too likely to happen. I can pay you double for them. Just get them to PC and I'll pay anything (almost...) for them.

rann89

@CaveManCobb @oOhedzOo I'll have fun never playing it. For console players it's an amazing open world. For PC, well... been there, done that. Would be nice to try out, but nothing new to see here, folks.

@quakke @olavinto Sorry about that, I must have read it before your post and it just got stuck echoing in my head. Though my point is still valid.

We could still argue that you can also shoot from the hip in CoD and keep it very fast paced and even when using the sight it can be very fast. Also it's much more difficult to hit anything from the hip than with Half-Life 2 for example.

But I also get your point and I'm also a fan of Dead Space (all three) and Wolfenstein and Arkham Origins are on my Steam wishlist too.

quakke

@olavinto

Where did i say that the reason i don't want ironsights or health regen is beacause of Realism? I never said that. You made it up yourself.

I don't want ironsights because they slowdown the gameplay pace to boring snail speed "wait that things will happen" kinda thing. I don't want health regen because that takes away the tension from the game due to you being practically invulnerable as long as you go to cover. I want my games without those "features" because the gameplay is going to be more interesting and challenging.

Because Half-Life 2 does not let you use that sight, it takes more skill to get the shots hit the target. These are videogames so not everything has to be realistic.

I'm not dissapointed at all about this generic shooter not coming to PC. I will get Wolfenstein: The New Order (aka a real FPS) and Batman: Arkham Origins (some ThirdPerson Action) for my "new game" needs.

olavinto
olavinto

@quakke So basically you mean that it's more realistic to shoot from the hip and not to use the sight of a gun? Regen sure makes a game easier but that also depends on the game design and how much time you can spend in cover. Also it's at least as unrealistic to pick up health packs and fix yourself up in no time with them. Realistically you can at least handle pain after you've gotten a bit numb. Even without painkillers.

I played Half-Life 2 a few ours just a little while ago and I was feeling really stupid hitting people from a mile away with an SMG that also has a nice sight that cannot be used.

But anyway I'm really disappointed to see another very promising game not to be released on PC. I had PS3 and Xbox 360 but unfortunately I really hated to play almost anythin with them. I played NHL on the PS3 and some Alan Wake on the Xbox. Bought Alan Wake on PC and sold of both consoles. I have Halo 1 and 2 on PC and I'd really like to play the others too and would even pay quite a lot for them on PC. I fracking hate to play FPS games with a gamepad. It's just horrible.

@KleenexK

Sure, the basic idea might be same with each FPS. Meaning, kill everybody in firstperson perspective and save the day but gameplay can be varied.

Play DooM and tell me CoD and DooM are same? They're not because DooM doesn't have any of the features i listed because they make a game easier. So whenever a game comes that is hugely CoD inspired (regen, ironsights, sprintlimit, cod fov..), i do agree that a game is nothing more but a generic shooter (atleast on gameplay part). The game might offer some good story but it doesn't save it, if the actual gamePLAY is horrible.

KleenexK
KleenexK

@quakke @Garagorn888 @Linkalecious All fps are alike. Whenever you break down any game of the same genre, you will find things that will mimic each other. You have to look past the obvious similarities and define new games by the innovation they create with their story, multiplayer, etc. In this case, their public event system in their gameplay video is something I have yet to see in any fps game.
