Both Left 4 Dead games making The Sacrifice Oct. 5

Valve's original survival horror shooter and 2009 sequel updated with add-on next month; free on PC, $7 on Xbox 360.

In April, Valve released the first add-on to its critical hit survival horror zombie shooter Left 4 Dead 2, titled The Passing. Free for PC gamers and 560 Microsoft points ($7) on the Xbox 360, The Passing offered a connection between the events of the original Left 4 Dead and its 2009 sequel, as the games' casts teamed up to battle their way through the teaming hordes.

Today, Valve provided a date for its next round of zombie-fueled downloadable content, saying The Sacrifice will be available to Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 owners on October 5. As with The Passing, the add-on will be free for PC gamers, while the Xbox 360 version will cost 560 MS points.

The Sacrifice will be made next month.

The Sacrifice is told from the perspective of the original game's crew, operating as a prequel to The Passing. In it, the survivor contingent makes its way South in the lead-up to meeting up with Left 4 Dead 2's cast and passing on the gameplay torch. The add-on will also introduce the "sacrificial gameplay" mechanic, where players can decide who will die to save the rest of the group.

@Cidious8 True, but people got tired of hitting zombies with toys, and lawn chairs in Dead Rising. That's why they made Dead Rising 2. To make up for their mistake. Either way, I prefer L4D series, more fast paced.

I want it with cover, case and dvd.

Muzz93: That is a GREAT idea for a video game. GTA meets I am Legend. Really a boatload of potential there. BTW, I came to that conclusion before I facedesked after reading what you said about keyboard and mouse...

@devilscry you can do more with a high end gpu then just play games. i really wouldn't feel sorry for us PC gamers ;o)

I was so disappointed with "the passing" hopefully valve can redeem themselves with a deeper dlc this time around.

And just for the sake of an argument, I would, pit the current hardware of any of them, against a PC which will be unnecessarily equipped for this argument, with an Intel I7, 2 GTX 480's, and lets just throw a 9800GT in there just as a dedicated PhysX card, 16 gigs of RAM or 24 (haha, real, but again unnecessary) an asus board that can handle it, PCIE sound card to further reduce the cpu load, throw in 2 HD's (or SSD's) one slow with high capacity for storage and one as fast as you can find with less space for games, a 3d ready monitor with NVIDIA StereoScopic glasses, and 3D VirtuaGirl desktop software. Let the creamage begin.

@muzza93 you may have opened up a can of worms, the fire is upon you my child. GameGuy642003 is right, the precision of the mouse is unmatched, we can argue about how you can get headshots all day with an analog stick, but that just come with humans great ability to adapt. And, while for most of my youth was spent with NES, Master System, SNES, Genesis, and PS1&2, the PC has also found a way into my internal gaming structure. As for console controllers...........yeah, great for the console, absolutely wonderful, but I have an amazing amount of keys to map to which opens up a ridiculous amount of possibilities for me, and for the developer, who when making a PC game has to figure out how to simplify the controls for a console. It's quite limiting in the big picture, but that's not to say it doesn't work. And, you don't have to be a nerd, you just gotta have a brain. Think of it like this, Sony makes the PS3, Microsoft makes the 360, Nintendo makes the Wii, and you......make your own game console. It's that bada$$. And as far as performance goes, the PC blows themm all out of the water. There is no, and can be no, debate about that.

@muzza93 keyboard and mouse rule. How can you say they suck, they give the best mobility and sensitivity for playing games they are the best for shooters you get the best precision when using a mouse.

I Would absolutely love a free roam zombie game that takes itself seriously. Go out during the day to find survivors and supplies and travel but get indoors and locked up b4 night time cos thats when zombies come out, who thinks that sounds like an absolutely F***ing incredible game??? there could be a shopping mall set of missions as a sort of parody to dawn of the dead & u go on the roof & hit golf balls at zombies or snipe them, god i want it

@GravityDs Theres no way im gettin a pc, heres why. Keyboard and mouse suck, they were made for typing, controllers were made for games, moving your gun on screen with an analog stick is much better & rewarding than simply clicking on people to kill them. consoles hav no viruses and u dnt hav to be a nerd to play games on consoles cos of no uprading all this pc parts ive never heard of just to play a game. & consoles have splitscreen & u dnt hav to sit 30cm away from the screen to play so ur mates cant watch u play cos ya heads blocking the damn screen! CONSOLE ALL DA WAY! no offence intended to u GravityDs

The "sacrificial gameplay" mode will be a great addition!! I can already see the silly stuff happening here ;))

'Course, it occurs to me that with careful gameplay a team or a player usually can and often does exactly that.

How about a new preview video Gamespot? instead of just the old L4D2 review?

GOR_TAK
GOR_TAK

So will L4D 360 owners be able to play with L4D2 owners? Will each game version be exactly the same or will each be specific to what's available in each version? For instance there are several special infected that are only in L4D2 not to mention weapons and such.

GravityDs

@muzza93 I know it's a bit expensive but if you can afford it then I would suggest you getting a PC capable of running current gen games. You will have an extensive library of games to choose from, and if you build your rig right, you will only have to upgrade a part here and there over the years. Of course there will still be games unavailable to the PC, but a vast majority of them are available, and they look and run better than their console counterpart.

Awesome..look forward to this. Always did like L4D and now I got a reason get back into it. Thk goodness it's free for me though (PC FTW!) Screwed for the console players though Hopefully as it comes closer to release a reviewer can let players know if it's gonna be worth 7bux...I mean it better have a LONG campaign maybe weapons, skins or *crossing my fingers*) new enemy?! I dunno but 7bux seems kinda hefty.

SolanOcard
SolanOcard

Rudorlf, I started with L4D2, and liked it so much, I bought the first one. They are both worth it. But I do recommend playing them in order. the game play advances in the second one, make it slightly jarring to play the first one for the first time, because it is missing some features (melee weapons being the most glaring omission, as well as some missing special items... defibs, adreneline shots, bile jars etc.)

isnt it enough with the monthly payment we have to make in order to play online on 360?!!! c'mon MS stop being sooo freaking greedy!!! let em downloads be free once in while im aint asking for every dlc to be free but at least those with little content

I think Half Life 2 - Episode 3 was left for dead by Valve. Seriously, at least a news update that it's in production or something would hold me over for another 5 years.
