Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Gets October Release Date, Dance-Filled Trailer

Harmonix chips in to help create a "moon dance break" in the trailer, because why not.

A new trailer for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel released today has revealed the game's release date of October 14. More importantly, it contains a healthy amount of moon dancing.

The dubstep-laced trailer provides a look at the game in action, showing us new environments, new enemies, an argyle-skinned weapon, and--if you look carefully--some of the skills two of the new classes have at their disposal. Halfway through, the trailer pauses for a "moon dance break," which 2K says it worked on with Dance Central maker Harmonix in order to best the Claptrap dance routine from Borderlands 2's "Doomsday" trailer.

Along with the release date, 2K announced the bonus meant to entice you to preorder the Pre-Sequel: the Shock Drop Slaughter Pit. No details were offered on this save for what's in the image to the right. It reads, "Enter the Shock Drop Slaughter Pit and face off against the toughest Scavs on Pandora's moon, Elpis! Survive the battle and you'll be feared and respected by the few left alive… not to mention the experience and gear you'll earn!"

The Pre-Sequel, as the name suggests, is set before Borderlands 2, the best-selling game in 2K Games history. Unfortunately for those itching to see what the series will be like on next-gen hardware, it will only be available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Its price has yet to be announced, because its scope has not been determined--Gearbox Software (which is co-developing the game with 2K Australia) president Randy Pitchford has said it may end up being somewhere between the original Borderlands and Borderlands 2.

Lots of fun on a small disc.

Revolutionary? Nope.

Innovative? Nope.

Am I getting it? Oh-holy-crap-i-joy-puked-in-my-mouth-a-bit-YES.

Playing this game with friends takes me back to the days when I was little and we were running around my backyard pretend-shooting aliens with our gun-sticks. It's just a fun series, through and through and a total blast to play.

I would really enjoy seeing the team throw Borderlands 1 into the remake machine and have it run with the BL2 engine.  Everything would go together a little more seamlessly as well as people who played BL2 but thought BL was too much of a step back in terms of graphics or game systems, take your pick, might give it another shot.

Call it Borderlands Redux for humor's sake.  I'd buy it.

Believe it or not, I picked up the original Borderlands but struggled to get into it. After that I never played BL2 until I got it for the Vita and now I can't put the darn game down, so with a recently sparked interest in the franchise I'm looking forward to this.

Have they confirmed if there's any moon physics in the game? I know there's like parts of the moon that's opened up and you have limited air or something. It sounds frickin' amazing and should tie me over nicely till Borderlands Next-Gen.

I Loved BL1 & 2 and all the DLC, probably one of my favorite games to play with friends online, strangely i'm not really even excited about this one......im sure they'll do a good job and make it true to the BL name but i'm completely lacking any form of excitment, unlike which i had for BL2.

Maybe if it was coming out on next gen......

Times change, if this was 2012 and this game was on the way id jump on that pre-order like if it was a b!tch in heat, only, its 2014 and the game will release almost 2015. Now its true i play more on my 360 more than i do on my x1 so far. I even buy 5-10$ games still to the 360 and got alot of games i havent even tried but to be honest, id never ever (in almost 2015) spend 50-60$ on a game to the last gen, and by the time this game hits that 10$ price i will be 100% xbox one converted. I love the borderlands series but im gonna let this slide through my fingers. I just dont have any intrest in new stuff for last gen when x1 been out for a year.

@srushtatxbl First of all I have no idea what you said, apart from when new Borderlands gets old, it'll cost less and you won't be playing your old 360 at that time. It's the way the world turns, in case you're wondering; & second, THIS game might be worth the price tag - in fact - it may be worth ANY price they put on it, if it's going to be anything like 2 (read: massive, great and hours of fun).

Maybe it's the fact that I played them in singleplayer, but I never really got into Borderlands 1 or 2. I picked them up, played them each for a number of hours and then didn't feel any compulsion to play them again.

@hellknight40000 Never played either online and enjoyed them a lot, sorz it's not your kind of game - because they're pretty awesome..:)

I dont know. I still have Bordlerands 1 and 2 and those 2 games have more Borderlands than i can possible need and they are still pretty fun to play. Even the original Borderlands is still fun to play. Can this do anything that will truly make me want this?

Do you know what i want? a 1st person DIABLO!!!

Can't. Friggin'. Wait.

I love the series too much not to get BL:TPS. And, after watching the recent gameplay demo, I'm even more hyped for it 'cuz the new gameplay systems are far more cool than I originally thought they'd be. On top of that, I'm legitimately hyped for all the characters, as much as I was with BL2's release.

Is this a whole new game, or more like an expansion to Borderlands 2?  Have they built on the gameplay, or just added new story?

blackace

What, no next gen? Hopefully they don't change their mind and do a trilogy of the series for next-gen a year from now. That would suck. I'd rather just see Borderlands 3 on next-gen only in a year or two from now.

Though I throughly enjoyed Borderlands during my console days (probably because I had friends who gamed), it was a game that once my friends and I finished it, I had zero desire to play it. I bought BL2 during an Extra Life 24 hour stream. What can I say? I'd donated a significant amount several hours earlier and Jess was inviting me to play, and she's damned cute... Unfortunately, due to a GPU failure (brand new and untested card) I couldn't play. Since then I've put a few hours into it, but I honestly have zero desire to play it - can't be bothered. It just feels too much like the same game, done a second time. I really hope this next game is done better and innovates a bit more because I'd like to play it, but I don't want yet another game cluttering up my Steam library that I can't be bothered to play.

anyone know why most or all gamespot videos keep freezing every few seconds? it only seems to happen here, no matter if the video is already completely loaded

Atzenkiller
Atzenkiller

@damanofsac @Atzenkiller  nah, like i said i usually let the videos pre-load for a while anyway. it's not like the videos are stopping but just the picture is freezing for a second. and it happens every few seconds on some videos. my laptop shouldn't have problems handling it, i don't even watch them in HD and i have an SSD installed.

so might it just be a compatibility issue with the IE11?

I'll wait for a sale because it looks more like a Borderlands 2 expension to me, but I'll definitely play this. Can't get enough of Borderlands.

" Its price has yet to be announced, because its scope has not been determined..."

Sounds like they have yet to decide how much they want you to pay after you buy the game, and saying it isn't full price then charging for "Seasons" is too much of a money grab for me to give a nonobjective opinion.

Borderlands 2 is probably my most played game ever. I will happily purchase this.

I'm not sure I understand your extremely eloquent statement. Do you mean that my choice of game is poor or that you assume I could not afford anything other than Borderlands 2?

Fire_Wa11

Meh.  I don't have to get every new shiney thing that comes out.  I'd rather spend that $40 flirting with ladies over a steak and martini, come home, and fire up my third playthru of Borderlands 2.

Atzenkiller
Atzenkiller

@Fire_Wa11  well how about getting the game and lettings the ladies pay for the steak and martinis?

Fire_Wa11
Fire_Wa11

@SingletreeAve @Fire_Wa11 I pretty much walked right into that one anyway.  You have an opening for a funny joke?  You gotta go for it!  It almost got me fired once.

I did PR for a day spa and one of the fancy-shmancy customers complimented my coworker on a mink coat who replied, "Oh thanks.  And would you believe I got this in the 80s?  Once you have a mink coat, you'll have it forever."

To which I yelled from my back office, "Not if you're a mink!"

We weren't even allowed to talk to customers unless they talked to us first so I'm sure I wasn't suppose to do that.  To this day though, it's probably one of my  best one-liners ever.  It would have been worth getting fired!

Fire_Wa11
Fire_Wa11

@Atzenkiller @Fire_Wa11 That could be some good reverse psychology right there.  "Let me get some of the creme bur lais.  A couple prime-ribs.  Some coconut shrimp.  A Grey Goose martini up.  And the beautiful young ladies who never met me over here are gonna' pay for it!"

It would be a creative way to break the ice anyway.

@Fire_Wa11 @SingletreeAve could be worse.. I left a shock pen at my desk at my last job... my boss sat down at my desk to talk with a coworker and went to write... .I heard a few explatives..

Looking at the trailer this looks a lot more like an expansion than a new game. It appears that nothing has changed with the player menu or health and Shield bars. Not that they need changing, just sayin.

crujoness
crujoness

@spartanx169x That can be seen as either a pro or con about the game, depending on how much one likes BL2. I know I'll play it at some point, but I'll wait for the price to come down, even BL2 is in my top 5 of last gen.

mboettcher
mboettcher

@spartanx169x I think 10 or so years ago they would have called this an expansion, but I don't really see that term being used outside of Blizzard games these days.  It's either a stand-alone game using the same engine or it's DLC.  This isn't always a bad thing. Fallout 2, Freedom Force and Third Reich, and others that I can't remember changed little, but were still enjoyable games.  I think this "expansion" will be a lot of fun, but won't be quite the revelation that Borderlands 2 was.

Fire_Wa11
Fire_Wa11

@ladies_man_xxx Heh.  Maybe but at the very end of Slumdog Millionaire when (spoiler) they all of a sudden burst into a bollywood dance -- which had nothing to do with the plot nor the tone of the movie?  Come on, bro.  I struggle with musicals even when South Park or Family Guy does 'em, but that was so unexpected, out of the blue, ironic and funny as hell.  I absolutely loved it.
