Bodycount piling up August 30

Codemasters' new shooter firing this summer for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3; making European debut on September 2.

When Black designer Stuart Black and other high-level developers left Codemasters last year, first-person shooter Bodycount was pushed from a spring 2011 release window to an unnamed date in summer. Now, the game has a definite date with retail.

The Bodycount rises in late August.

Bodycount will ship for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on August 30 in North America, followed by a September 2 date in European regions.

As for the game, Bodycount is a modern day first-person shooter that has gamers battling class-based enemies in "outrageous and stylish" gunfights. Players will take up arms in worldwide locations like Africa and Asia, and they can make use of destructible environments to their advantage.

In addition to a single-player campaign, Bodycount boasts online competitive and cooperative components. For more on the title, check out GameSpot's most recent hands-on preview of Bodycount.

When will we ever see a follow up to Criterion's amazing FPS, Black?

This game will be too arcade for me. Considering what I saw till now, if the graphics come very good, maybe I'll give a chance. What I hated most is the "Black" type of aiming, you can't aim down the sights. For a game like Black, at its time, was something cool, I love Black, but that time passed and now there's no way to come back with this arcade feature anymore.

A bit on the story for Drakkengoth's benefit: the co-op levels - played from the perspective of other Network or even Target operatives - serve as 'bookends', showing events that go down before or after the SP protagonist has come calling. Generally, looks like fun, and will come just in time for when a break from EDF: Insect Armageddon is needed. Oh yeah, bonus points for Target trooper aesthetics.

The Art stlye reminds me of Brink, From wat little gameplay I've seen, not too sure if i should pick this up. Will probably rent it first and if it turns out to have an actual story, I may consider...

Looks interesting. You just KNOW though that this is probably going to be heavily censored in Germany and Australia.

I looked up game play for this. This has to be the most generic looking game since Wolfenstein. Seriously, who would be excited for this game?

Dunno about this one. We'll see, we'll see, probably just rent it.

@OreoPoptart Yay for trolls who say a game is 'beyond BAD' before it's even OUT. Way to go, bud.

I might get this game being as how it's more or less a follow-up to the xbox/ps2 game Black. and that game was fun.

@Gajin How is Bodycount a controversial title for a shooter? Lol. Anyway, from the little I saw of the game in that trailer, it seems at least semi-unique, which is a trait that's always welcome with shooters.

I dont like the fact you cant aim down your iron sights and it forces you into that annoying right screen zoom-in angle, But the idea of the game sounds interesting with the damage and cover system.

Terrible title, just asking for controversy. Of course, maybe that's what they're going for... $$$$$
