History has proven that any game with the words "Final" and "Fantasy" in the title will start off strong when it comes to sales in Japan. Unsurprisingly, then, Final Fantasy Type-0 placed highly in the Media Create charts for the week of October 24 to October 30.

The PSP role-playing game was at first place with 472,253 units sold. The action RPG was first unveiled at the 2006 Electronic Entertainment Expo under the moniker Final Fantasy Agito XIII, with its gameplay design going through numerous changes until its release last October in Japan. For comparison's sake, Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII sold close to 470,000 on its first week, while Dissidia Final Fantasy sold 500,000. The latest Final Fantasy title also beat out other high-profile new releases like Kirby: Return to Dreamland for the Wii and the PS3 version of The Idolmaster 2. The former was at second place with 136,811 units sold, while the latter was at third place with 65,512 units sold.

Newcomer Senritsu no Stratus for the PSP was at ninth place with 15,623 units sold. The game is a blend of 2D side-scrolling and top-down isometric-view action where players control a trio of future cops called the Imperial Task Force 6 to fight off monsters spawning from the Lunar Stratus base. On the hardware side of things, the 3DS still outsold the PSP despite the release of Final Fantasy Type-0. Nintendo sold 65,041 of its newest portable system, while Sony sold 30,605 units of the PSP. The rest of the systems dropped a little in sales; Sony sold 25,217 units of the PS3 while Nintendo sold 11,784 units of the Wii for the week.
