Big in Japan Mar. 8-14: Pokemon Ranger returns

Nintendo's creature-battler reprises its finish atop Media Create's weekly sales chart, as trio of new PSP releases lift Sony's handheld.

Nintendo's Pokemon Ranger spin-off titles may not enjoy the same level of popularity as the full-fledged gotta-catch-'em-up games, but, well, they're still Pokemon. Into its second week on Media Create's Japanese sales chart, Pokemon Ranger: Hikari no Kiseki sold 65,355 units during the March 8-14 reporting period, securing it back-to-back top-place finishes.

Pikachu remains…on fire?

Fully half of Media Create's chart toppers for the week can be counted as new releases. Leading the pack is What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!? 3D (formerly known as the Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman series), which landed in fourth with 33,920 units sold. Koei's latest beat-'em-up Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce 2 secured fifth place with 31,674 units. Rounding out the PSP trio, Nippon Ichi's Zettai Hero: Modification Plan debuted in sixth, selling 31,447 units.

EA's latest shooter Battlefield: Bad Company 2 managed to crack Japan's sales charts during the second week of March, as the PlayStation 3 edition sold 28,353 units. The final new release, Enterbrain's RPG Maker DS, sold 23,766 units. The remainder of the chart was filled out by the familiar names of Tomodachi Collection, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Dragon Quest IX, and Wii Fit Plus.

The trio of strong PSP debuts again elevated Sony's portable to the top of the hardware charts with 39,125 units sold--though its UMD-less counterpart remained dead last with 1,191 systems. The Wii and PS3 sparred for silver and bronze, selling 31,460 units and 26,481 units, respectively. Nintendo's DS trifecta again remained bunched, as the DSi LL sold 21,604 units, the DSi hit 13,581 systems, and the DS Lite trailed with 3,920. Still, the DS's earliest revision managed to outsell the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2, which clocked in at 2,668 units and 1,825 units, respectively.

Pokeman is still a favorite among my grandsons and is one enjoyable game.

I no longer play Pokemon but I have to say, it was my first RPG and I still have my copy of Pokemon Blue with a Lv: 99 Blastoise. Probably the most influential game in my past. On the other hand, congrats to the PSP!

Go Pokemon Ranger 3! Just finished my import copy, and I'm pretty impressed. Again.

RPG Maker DS? Now that is something I definitely hope releases outside of Japan. Loved the first one on the Playstation back in the day.

I was really shocked to see BFBC2 on the list. I mean Japan is kinda known for not liking 1st person games, so this has gotta be a check in the win collum for someone.

After watching that new dreadful commercial on the PS Move, I'm sort of glad PSP Go is a flop.

RitterXplode, you do realize the nintendo Ds is about to hit 23 million units sold in japan, right? the Ds already is the most sold video game device of all time. the sales you see of the Ds is still near the psp, for a console that basically reach its peak. Theres not much more people the ds can sell to at this point. the people who are buying ds are basically people replacing or upgrading there units.

I know this isn't the right place to say that but something is bugging me , what will be the next Sony move to outsell Nintendo ? *ironic isn't it ?*Do a balance board and call it balance ? Now to the point ds sales are going down not because of the saturation but because of the lack of games , every new title made by a great developer easily boost the sales , the Wii is coming with a great great line up , sorry but don't move *punch like a man * and neither some Natal * finger guns * will pass Nintendo easily

What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord! Wow, there was an article saying how 1/2 of PSP owners were girls and this just proves that. The DS has won and championed in Japan. That girl is right with the DS2. It will take longer in the rest of the world since it still sells.

Funny how the 360 didn't even double the PS2 and the PSP is on the first place. Again. Damn, just the opposite of us

@Wii Pikmin 3 should boost wii sales (I hope its wii motion plus exclusive) during the holidays. @360 I can't wait to see natal boost 360 sales in my home country later this year. I love you xbox!!!! @DS I think its time for nintendo DS2. The handheld race is getting boring.

@Pixel-Perfect : I preodered it and am still waiting for it to arrive. It always takes a while for Play-Asia shippings to arrive here. It's been shipped like... One week or so ago. Will probably take around one ore two more weeks if I'm unlucky.
