Bidding for remaining THQ IP closed

Company received 17 bids for "certain" remaining franchises, expected to bring in as much as $7 million when sale closes next month.

Bidding for the remaining unsold THQ franchises has closed, according to a legal document filed this week (via Polygon). Seventeen final bids for "certain" IP are expected to bring in between $6 and $7 million when the sale process closes by the end of May.

In February, THQ said it had received more than 100 expressions of interest for various titles. Bidding opened on April 1, with final bids required to be posted by April 15.

Franchises up for bidding include Darksiders (which Crytek USA is interested in), Red Faction, Homeworld, MX, and various other owned and licensed software, including Destroy all Humans! and Supreme Commander.

None of the bids were detailed in the document, though developer TeamPixel announced today that it had been outbid by a mystery party for the Homeworld IP.

"The auction for the Homeworld license ended April 15, 2013, and while we reached qualified bidder status for the bankruptcy auction, we were unable to raise the necessary funds to remain competitive against the other parties at the auction," the company wrote.

I just want whoever gets the rights to Red Faction to do it justice.  Armageddon was a complete waste of time.  Just another of the many games that sent THQ down the path to bankruptcy.

As long as Crytek or Platinum games doesn't get Darksiders I'll be happy.

The best thing I read up there?  Destroy All Humans!  I'd love to see a new one.

I am honestly suprised no one picked up Darksiders sooner. It's a good growing franchise that has a ton of potential.

Right now, because of the fact that something like 15+ million LESS people now have jobs then had jobs just a couple of years ago, there are probably quite a few people that aren't buying ANY new games and instead waiting 6-8 months "behind the cycle" so that they can get that same $60 game for $20.... I'm afraid software publishers are reading into the lower sales and assuming that interest is down in certain franchises.... I'm going to buy Darksiders 2, FarCry3, Crysis 3, Bioshock Infinite.... a ton of other recently published games... but I'm not doing so until I can get them for 20-30 bucks (actually just nabbed FC3 for like $32 after shipping off Amazon).  I'm surely not the only person doing this... I feel bad that my used-game purchases won't support the franchises I enjoy but I just can't justify spending $60 on a game when I can wait a few months and get the same game for 50-75% off.  I wish publishers/developers got a cut of used games (i've been saying for a long time they should raise used game costs by $2-$4 and give it to the game makers.... they'd get that 2-4 bucks probably 5 times over per copy from it being sold, bought, re-sold, re-bought, etc.)  With the glut of amazing games that have been coming out lately, I'm sure many people had to put some games that would have been clear #1 sellers at any other time on the back-burner for a while.... the way they're reporting unemployment, unfortunately, gives some people the impression that the economy is doing fine..... unemployment is what, 7.5%?  However, if you stopped looking for a job: you aren't in that 7.5%.  If you're on unemployment: you aren't in that 7.5%.  They use some weird "U6" number that allows them (the gov't) to say "Hey!  Unemployment is ONLY 7.5% and it WAS like 9%!  Yay!"  But that's because of all the people that gave up.... with 15 + million less people working now then 5 or so years ago and a LOT of them recent college grads.... it's no wonder New Game sales suck and Used Game sales are where everyone is running to.

I hope they do keep Darksiders the same though. It's really great.... there's no need to make it have a make over.

I would like to see more games for Darksiders, Red Faction, Homeworld, and Destroy All Humans. While I know everybody like their own type of game I really liked these. Darksiders has an interesting story and there are two more riders to follow yet. RF was fun especially Guerrilla with all of the destruction just need a better story and Armageddon was ok. The weapons were fun but there was no sandbox and the story really needed work. I really like Homeworld not much to say about that. DAH was really fun with the destruction and the humor. It would be fun to see the level of destruction of RF in DAH.

I'd love somebody to bid on Deadly Creatures and put it out as a PSN/XBLA title. It's a great game, and deserved a better audience than the Wii gave it.

Damn, I should have bought the rights to Homeworld!  Would be awful hard to make Homeworld 3 by myself; I wonder if Yes is still making music?

Is it so hard to put an s after IP. IPs is the proper way to abbreviate it in the plural, as the plural is not also singular. Intellectual Properties is the plural of Intellectual Property. Property is not singular and plural it is only singular, and every use in this article including the headline is a plural use (Homeworld excepted) . Take a refresher on your high-school English please

I hope whoever gets the MX vs ATV rights will release a complete version of MXvsATV Alive with all DLC included. If I'm not mistaken you can no longer get any of the DLC for that game, which was originally supposed to be a low cost game with tons of post release DLC to keep sales up.

@JayQproductions What are u talking about? Vigil Team (DS makers) ARE Crytek usa if anyone it should be them who get it, its only right that they get it back...

Read up on it Crytek hired them and assigned them to usa division with Vigil head as lead of said division.

@CombatIT I'm pretty sure SEGA got the 40K license along w/ Relic if I'm not mistaken...that was the one IP I was very interested in too.

So I'm worried...cause SEGA is VERY hit or miss.  But they do have the Total War team so maybe there's hope!

@CombatIT EA should bid on WARHAMMER 20K. They already have the rights to WARHAMMER.

@CaptWaffle   If they made games like they did a couple generations ago people would be more willing to eat the 60 but not regret it. games are being made cheaper and cheaper with less talent and hard work since dlc and free to play makes it easier and gives them an excuse to take more and more away from the game.

@CaptWaffle You are right there and alot of my friends are waiting 6 months and getting them second hand. Like thae article said from friday they are still moving 300k consoles in NA and 1or so million worldwide a month on top of all the consoles out there. People are not buying them for expensive paperweights!

@caffiend7no . i like the old darksiders , if platinum got the rights for darksiders . the game would turn into boring fast paced linear action

@PacoTaco I love Homeworld and Yes!  But I have no idea how they are related.  Think they would be interested in doing the soundtrack?

@davidsworld3 @CaptWaffle If you adjust for inflation, those $60 games would cost, oh, something like $90.  Want to drop all the DLC and have companies charge $90 for games?

@Tony-Baxter Cheers you two. I did do a quick Google search and that company was the main item that it turned up, but didn't see the connection. Doesn't help that I though LJN was an acronym like WTF or FTW. :-P

TJSpyke
TJSpyke

@PlatinumPaladin During the NES days, Nintendo allowed publishers to release only 5 games a year (to help stop the situation that caused the Atari 2600 to fail). To get around this, Nintendo let some publishers create subsidiaries to publish more games. Konami created "Ultra Games", Acclaim created "LJN". Not sure why Tony is equating THQ to LJN.

WhitGameR44
WhitGameR44

@PlatinumPaladin @Tony-Baxter LJN was a company in the 80s and 90s that would make pretty much every comic/movie adaption for the NES and SNES.  And let's just say that even their best game they ever made was still a steaming pile of ****.
