Battlefield 3 Premium Edition hitting September for $70

EA to offer bundle that includes base game, all expansion packs, and a multiplayer "head start" kit for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC next month.

Gamers who have held off picking up Battlefield 3 may want to wait a little while longer. Electronic Arts today announced the Battlefield 3 Premium Edition, a bundle for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC that includes all of the game's planned and released downloadable content and more for $70.

Battlefield 3 Premium Edition, not to be confused with Battlefield Premium

Due out on September 11 in North America and on September 13 in Europe, the Battlefield 3 Premium Edition packs in all five digital expansion packs, including the already released $15 Back to Karkand and Close Quarters expansions. Additionally, the premium bundle will include upcoming add-ons Armored Kill, Aftermath, and End Game.

A similar offer is currently available via the Battlefield 3 Premium service. For $50, players who already own the base game can grab all previously released DLC for Battlefield 3, as well as early access to upcoming add-ons. More than 1.3 million have already purchased Battlefield 3 Premium.

The Battlefield 3 Premium Edition also includes a "head start" kit for the game's multiplayer component. This collection includes 15 multiplayer unlocks.

EA calls the Battlefield 3 Premium Edition an "unbeatable value" at $70, noting if gamers were to purchase all content individually, the cost would exceed $100. If pricing patterns hold for the future add-ons, the total would actually be $135.

Why is everyone so angry? If you think about it, the DLC is still $50.  The price of the game dropped to $20, which is not unreasonable considering how long its been out and how many units its sold.

Ill buy it again man sod it. £5.00 extra for Premium and base game can't knock it really and even more so get a nasty K/D ratio. Nice one EA (no sarcasm)

As a person who never supported DICE and never cared about their games, this is an excellent deal! Sucks to be a fan, huh?

See people your all stupid for buying into premium!

Now people who where probably never interested in this piece of crap can now buy the game and premium togethor for way less money!

While fanboys payed more for being their loyal little puppies.

In conclusion this stinks for most and good for the new people wanting to buy BF3, also fanboyism is bad and should never exist!

WOW!  This is gonna piss people off, but good!  Why to go EA!  Will they have even released all 5 of the map packs by September?  And you really can't say anything bad about the people that blew the $50 for the premimum service.  I  don't play the game enough to justify the expense, but for those that enjoy the game and know they'll be playing it on a regular basis, it an understandable buy.  But for EA to then go out and sell the whole kit and kaboodle for only a few bucks more than the original price of the standalone game, AND to sell it when the game's not even a year old, well, that just goes to show you why EA is one of the most hated companies on the planet.  Like I said, way to go EA!  Keep up the good work!

Why are they releasing on September 11th?

I hate EA to death, but, to be fair, even Rockstar (everyone's favorite company) and Valve (everyone's other favorite company) have done the same thing. R* released a "complete" edition of GTA4, L.A. Noire, and RDR GOTY edition. Valve made an L4D GOTY edition. That's why I try to wait before I buy certain games... Why buy half a game for $60 when you can get the full game for $50-$70 later?

thereal-15-cent
thereal-15-cent

Good thing I held off on buying this. Still... Loyal fans get treated like crap. "Here, pre-order this for $60 and we'll throw in a free map!" *a few months later* "Here, buy this for $70 and we'll give you 20 extra maps!" I think people who pre-order should automatically get all the DLC for free.

That's it EA, I'm not buying anymore of your games.

This is one of the few times I've felt like using profanity in a comment.  I paid $60 for this game when it first came out.  It doesn't really pay to be a fan of a series anymore, as it always seems to be the on the fence people who get the best deal.  They get to spend $70 while I'd have to pay $120 for the exact same content.  EA sucks.

I was looking at gamestop.ca's website last week, and they already had this up for pre-order before this announcement.

this is basically a GOTY edition no? - so why does it cost more than the game at launch?

foxrock66

The hell... I preordered BF3 for $10 less than this and it was enough of a disappointment after all the hype and expectations from BF2. Now they're just rubbing it in. Eff you EA. Eff you most loudly.

here i am again happy i didnt bought this from EA great game ruined ...again, i feel sorry for those who bough it yet again, guys learn from your mistake vote with your wallets....do no fall for this bussines malpractices.

I typically don't mind when a company decides to pump out DLC but this is pissing me off.  I pre-ordered Battlefield 3 for 60 bucks and now I'll be up around 130 bucks in on this title if I want all the goods everyone else is getting.  Bull sh**.  Sure seems EA has the Midas touch and we all know how that ends.

danielcliment

I'm still pissed off.....very pissed off..... is so sad how greed can lead to stupid and mindless decisions for the sake of profit. All those nice words about "we want the gamer to have a new experience and bla, bla bla" new experience indeed, in how to spend money on the same product 5 times...

LeeEvlin
LeeEvlin

@leandrro What spec is your system ? I doubt that for $300 you can run on high. I got a £1000 and play on medium settings with HBAO and get 60 FPS which is a must in this game. I would be really interested what your getting for $300.

Because... it's a Tuesday, most games are released on Tuesdays. Is it wrong just becuase it happens to be on 9-11?

kisado87

@thereal-15-cent This is a bit different, I think. Game of the Year editions usually come out at the end of the game's lifespan. BF3 has plenty of life left in it and this nonsense was announced literally MONTHS after the $50 premium 'service' was launched. This is pissing on all the BF fans.

q-bert39

@mtait01 Yeah except that its not a game of the year, and that vip/premium was retarded and a complete failure, unless you have the downs.

@Dante0611 Good lord, learn how to spell before you blindly bash a game you've never played. If the game is so terrible, why do I have no problem finding a match in the dozens of servers with 20+ playing? Dunno about you, but I got the game and the DLC for about $50 and it's one of the most unique online multiplayer games I've ever played. Great purchase imo

DUMB_Pinhead
DUMB_Pinhead

@kisado87 Agreed. I'm pissed off at DICE and I don't exactly know why, I think I'm slightly disappointed that they treat new and potential customers like kings and treat the perpetual and longtime fans like unwanted dogs. They wave great big juicy steaks in front of new customers and occasionally throw us a bone every now and then. Not quite abuse or anything like that, it's just sort of bad business ethics. Good for making money, not happy customers.

@buccomatic ...and there's me thinking 'what's an indie rock artist got to do with video games?'

FYI: It's GOTY, not goyte.

jark888

@buccomatic Believe it or not, it gonna take a few years from now to have much more fan boys and publishers understood your point; and eventually take us all out of this nonsense DLC era.

thereal-15-cent
thereal-15-cent

 @buccomatic

They'll never beat CoD in sales....  BF is slow paced, and all about strategy and teamwork. It doesn't have the mass appeal to sell more than CoD.

Dante0611
Dante0611

@Afrojitsu you missed the point....like thereal noticed, is the company that publishes this game you love so much like EA in this case, they ruined it they turn into the selling model that treats us the gamers/costumers like a walking wallet, im glad youre happy with your game and it only costed you 50 bucks, to bad a good number of the people in here dont seem to share your opinion. im still happy i didnt got milked no matter how good the game is......i choose to vote with my wallet, like a costumer that has some self respect and a will to show it.

thereal-15-cent
thereal-15-cent

 @Afrojitsu

He's not talking about the gameplay itself, he's talking about EA's greed. They have no respect for their customers.

q-bert39
q-bert39

@buccomatic Nope, not being sarcastic. I use an artificial aiming aimbot on pretty much every FPS game i play. I've used it in BFBC, BF2, BF3, TF2, L4Dead, and a few others.

Dante0611
Dante0611

the only ridiculous one is you kid you obviously dont apreciate what you buy otherwise you wouldnt act like the mindless guillable sucker you are, when daddy and mommy stop buying your games then you have an opinion i played the old battlefield games up to BC2 i know well what im talking about...i just happen to be smarter than you, plenty of idiots like you keep companies treating us like garbage...... is a sad truth.

Afrojitsu
Afrojitsu

@Dante0611 LOL do you have any idea how ridiculous you sound? Of course it's not fact, because I and thousands of other people believe the exact opposite. We're having a blast in our 64-player matches, and we don't care how EA chooses to market the game. It's obviously working, you're just butthurt that it is.At this point I really can't tell if you're an excellent troll or just a gullible neckbeard who doesn't understand English. If you're going to make such bold, unproven statements, the least you could do is learn some proper English so you don't sound like a buffoon.

Dante0611
Dante0611

@Afrojitsu it is a fact ask anyone with a brain the only ones that dont feel robbed, sorry to pop your bubble are guillable costumers like you, so keep defending them and keep getting robbed ignorance is a bless in your case seems like a decease but to each their own, plenty of cattle to milk eh buddy.

Afrojitsu
Afrojitsu

@Dante0611 Keep telling yourself you're some mighty protester making a difference and "voting with your wallet", but the truth is that it won't make a single difference to EA because they'll always have customers wanting to buy their products. You thinking that EA is greedy is your OPINION, so stop acting like it's a fact
