Battle out of Hell in limbo until November

DreamCatcher pushes back the release of the Painkiller expansion pack one month.

Today, DreamCatcher Games announced it is delaying the release of Painkiller: Battle out of Hell, an expansion pack for its supernatural-themed shooter. The expansion, originally scheduled for an October 13 release, will now arrive on PCs November 10.

Battle out of Hell will expand both the single- and multiplayer areas of the game, which follows a dead mercenary battling demons in purgatory. A new chapter and 10 additional levels will be added to the story, while online players can access new multiplayer modes, maps, and models. In addition, the expansion includes the software development kit, so the community can create unique maps and levels.

In a statement, DreamCatcher said the extra time will give the publisher a longer runway to promote the game to the media. Developer People Can Fly will also use the time to add additional gameplay features.

The original Painkiller was released in April for the PC and was reviewed by GameSpot’s own Greg Kasavin. An Xbox version is also planned for an as-yet-undetermined release date.
