Batman: Arkham Knight Preorder Bonuses

Red Hood announced as the latest preorder bonus available for Arkham Knight, but only at GameStop.

Batman: Arkham Knight may not be coming until next year, but preorder it through GameStop and you'll be entitled to a downloadable content pack that lets you play as Red Hood.

With today being Batman Day, GameStop announced the Red Hood Story Pack. There were no details shared beyond the fact that you'll get the chance to play as Red Hood, who is traditionally a Batman villain. Given this is a "story pack," we can probably expect this to entail more than just a reskinned version of Batman.

This a GameStop-exclusive DLC pack, meaning a GameStop preorder is the only way to get your hands on it. Doing so will also entitle you to the previously announced Harley Quinn Story Pack. That DLC includes four challenge maps and lets you play as Harley and "utilize her unique weapons, gadgets, and abilities." This preorder bonus, unlike the Red Hood DLC, is available through other retailers.

The only other preorder bonus to be announced so far is one through Walmart for a "prototype Batmobile." We don't yet know exactly what it entails, but this version of the Batmobile is said to include "exclusive gameplay features."

We'll keep this story updated with any additional bonuses announced between now and Arkham Knight's launch.

Combined with the PlayStation-exclusive Scarecrow nightmare missions announced at E3, it's going to be difficult to get your hands on every bit of Arkham Knight content that's out there. At least in the case of the preorder bonus DLC, though, it's possible it could be sold as standard DLC at some point following Arkham Knight's launch.

Originally scheduled for release this fall, Arkham Knight was delayed last month until sometime in 2015. The version of Gotham City available for players to explore is "five times larger than the game world of Arkham City" according to its developer. For more on Arkham Knight--which is coming only to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC--check out our latest preview here.

Which DLC pack are you most interested in trying? Will it convince you to preorder? Let us know in the comments.

Um... But... I thought the Red Hood wore a mask? Neither Red Hood ever wore an actual "Hood".

I saw the animated movie called Under the Red Hood. It was a good movie, but so sad :(.

Pre-order bonus and DLC should die already. Please give us a complete game. Bundle up all your DLCs and make it to a meaty expansion pack, then i'll buy again.

I liked Arkham City GOTY with all in it. I expect to like such version of this in the future too. No hurries here

Stop teasing us with these pre-order bonuses.

Are these going to be like the Arkham City DLC, where the game has a bunch of uncollectable-collectables and main menu buttons you can't use unless you have Catwoman but the game is actually worse if you use her?

Take MY MONEY Rocksteady finally they put Jason Todd in the Arkham series, which is my opinion he is the best out of all the robins.

I do like it how says story pack for Redhood.  The side kicks seem to get shfated in the story mode of the Arkham games.  Robin showed up only briefly in the story to Arkham City and didn't get a story mode until the dlc and Nightwing got no story.  I do hope the Robin and Nightwing get story modes too.  Even Batgirl and and Batwoman story modes would be awesome.

I love how everybody says ima wait for the goty edition because I don't want to buy dlc so your going to wait a whole year to play this game because it has day 1 dlc lol ill never understand the problem

I'm not sure how I feel about the look of Red hood, kind of looks a bit generic to me

Oh look another preorder bonus you can't get if you're outside of the US, thanks Obama!

Joking aside, these practices should just die already. But of course this won't happen because of gullible people falling for this preorder bs.

WHAT? i dont know if im still looking forward to this game... this is complete bullshit, not only do they force us to pre-order the game to get the dlc but also on a specific retailer aswell?

I have never been a fan of DLC's being announced even before the game itself is even out, but this makes it even worse.

Why are they always making lame challenge maps as the DLC for the Batman games? Oh right because they're lazy and challenge maps are easy to do. I think I'll just wait for the GOTY edition so I won't have to deal with this pre-order exclusivity BS.

I have to agree with some of the comments here. As much as I like to support the studios making great games, Forcing people to choose which retail outlet they want to use in order to get certain types of DLC that are spread across several retailers just piss people off and force them to get it all in one place through pirated versions. If a paying consumer can't easily obtain the game in it's entirety and affordably they will always seek out alternate ways to get it. Too bad developers are allowing this sort of thing to happen to their potential customers because it only hurts them.

More throwaway content to entice people into making rash and irresponsible financial decisions? Let me guess, the review embargo will be up the day the game is out?  Where do I sign up?

Stebsis

Wow, this is great, WB/Gamestop just made the choice for me where I'm preordering this: piratebay, and they even saved me $60 that I can spend on games that don't do this bullshit, couldn't ask for better publisher and retailer. And I bet anything that PS "exclusive" content will be also on PC just like Ubisoft does with their games.

so if i don't buy it from GameStop no Red Hood for me? o_O that will be kinda sad... maybe released later?

deadeternityx

Yeah, this is ridiculous. Next thing that will happen is certain games will only be purchasable at GameStop. Oh, wait... They've done that before, too. This may seem a bit melodramatic, but it's like everyday I'm given a new reason to quit buying most of these big publisher AAA titles.

I bet the pirates don't have to worry about store exclusives.

Man, I hate getting more content for the same amount of money I would have been paying anyway just for putting $5 down on a game that I can cancel at any time and put it on a different game.

I don't think he's "traditionally a Batman villain" but more of a vigilante like Batman, but with guns. If you know you histories, he's an angry Robin revived from the dead and fights the good fight... but with guns.

I was thinking... Wouldn't this be like a car reseller giving you free leather seats if you buy your car from them? Why people don't care about this practice in other markets, but in games it's condemned as greed.

See, all this is stuff is purely optional.

dussan2
dussan2

this is absolutely ridiculous.  The bestnews is that if things go true to form the GOTY edition will be released 12 months after the original game.

daikkenaurora12
daikkenaurora12

I want to play this game but i dont like this garbage they call "marketing".  I'll have to wait for the GOTY edition to play the full game without getting or buying DLCs.  Sad

aegis_kleais
aegis_kleais

If you want companies to stop doing this you have to send a message IN FORCE. You can't talk a big game and then go buy it on Day 1. You have to forego the instant gratification of playing the game, and be patient to wait for a GOTY edition down the line that does not disrespectfully segregate its community.

And if we're being honest here, I'd say less than 3% of the global market is capable of doing that. But about 25% will talk the talk (without walking the walk)

@DemoKnight10656 Being that my backlog is "Precious" large, it would probably be a year before I unseal it anyways.

kelseyjb

I'm not waiting a whole year unlike some people I have a choice it's not like they are making you get the dlc. I get it because.... Simply I want to and I can afford it. I don't always get dlc, but this one I will and if it's more that's good then I will buy it also. All this crying that people are doing they act like someone will put a gun to their head and make them buy it. It's simple if you don't want it the don't get it!

Beasley2K
Beasley2K

The problem is that it's becoming more and more common for companies to either announce DLC before a game is released, or even offer it as exclusive preorder bonuses for certain retailers, meaning you cannot get it all unless you buy it all later when they release the packs individually to purchase.

Because of this, most people say they'd rather wait for the inevitable GOTY edition, which will come with all DLC included for a cheaper price, which people do not only to save money, but sort of as a rebellion against day one DLC like this.

djjbras
djjbras

@Evil_Sidekick You mean "more games" for you. As you and I both know, that extra money will get spent on that. I do the same. Why buy one game at $59.99, when I can get 2 on sale for $29.99?

djjbras
djjbras

@pokuto10 I despise it. Not like Fem-Thor, but it's up there. Neither Red Hood ever wore a "hood". What is this, the Assassins Creed Red Hood?

System4Ever

@catsimboy Are you seriously calling Rocksteady lazy? have you even played the other two Arkham games made by them? i have never played a game with so much polish, Rocksteady care about their games, and if you can't see that then i feel sorry for you.

Darkhol0w
Darkhol0w

@catsimboy Why would you go through with waiting when you can just buy the game and NOT preorder? It's not like challenge maps are a big "steal" bonus as preorder.

djjbras

@wookiegr It's not like the DLC being offered has deep stories developed for them. Most of the time, it's crappy skins or add-on's. I look at these like Hats for my avatar. It's a joke. But, nothing about it makes me care. I'm getting the game either way. I just want to see the Collectors Edition, that's all I care about.

not really :p

@frozenuxx GOTY does not equal getting day one exclusives for pre-ordering.  It gets you all the content from the extra DLC packs that come out.  There area  few games that give you the pre-order bonuses but not many.

MrFreehuggs
MrFreehuggs

Here is a simple and better comparison than leather seats. Batman Begins is playing at two theaters, AMC and Cinemark. You can only see the Scarecrow scenes at AMC, but you live in a city where there are only Cinemark theaters. So you are SOL and not getting the full experience.

yoda101280

@meatz666 Well first that's not really something that actually happens.  But say it was, you could go to any car dealer and they would make you that same deal to get your business so there's no exclusivity you can still shop wherever you want.  With this practice you're forced to do your business there even if you don't want to.  Like me, I'm a steam guy, I like to have as much of my PC content as possible on Steam.  This game will certainly be on Steam but now I'll miss out on content on my preferred medium simply b/c of this.  There's no deal I can make to get this, there's no extra fee to pay, so if I want this content I have no choice but to go to gamestop which is not my preference.

Now for Gamestop this is a sweet deal but the people who make these games don't work for gamestop and without us buying the games they would indeed have no business so they could at least do us the small courtesy of letting us buy their product from the retailer of our choosing w/o gating content.

@Jim-El @d33z_r3tros Huh? But... He was also Robin. The op was saying they finally put him in the game.... Also saying that Jason Todd, was his favorite Robin. None of that doesn't make him not the Red Hood.

djjbras
djjbras

@Beasley2K A lot of places give you the DLC codes before you even pick up the game. So, I preorder, get the DLC and just don't pick up the game until it dips in price.
