Bastion DLC arriving this week

Stranger's Dream DLC to include fully narrated sequence and two gameplay modes; out December 14; free on PC, $1 on XBLA.

The critically acclaimed action role-playing game Bastion was a debut hit from developer Supergiant Games, initially released as part of this year's Xbox Live Summer of Arcade before making it onto PCs and Google's Chrome Web Store earlier this year.

Now, as a show of thanks to Bastion fans around the world, Supergiant Games has announced a soon-to-be-released DLC pack for the game, which will add a fully narrated sequence and two gameplay modes to the experience.

Titled Stranger's Dream, the DLC pack will arrive on December 14 at no charge for PC users. However, the game will cost 80 Microsoft points ($1) for XBLA users. The developer stipulates in the announcement that it couldn't make the game free due to Microsoft policy.

Supergiant Games' Bastion is getting a special DLC pack.

Stranger's Dream will include a new, fully narrated "Who Knows Where" sequence that will give players more insight into Ruck's backstory, as well as the history of Caelondia. The developer says the sequence will be "bigger and more challenging" than others in the game.

The DLC pack will also add a Score Attack mode and a No-Sweat mode to the game: the former will unlock all spirits and idols in the game from the first level and will rate players' efficiency in combat, with all areas becoming repeatable; the latter will provide players with unlimited chances to move forward from the point at which they were defeated in battle, suited for those who just want to experience the game's story.

PC and XBLA versions of the game will also contain new leaderboards for Stranger's Dream and Score Attack mode. However, to access this mode, as well as the narrated sequence, players will need to have finished the original game at least once.

Stranger's Dream will be available from December 14. Supergiant Games has clarified that the Google Chrome version of the game will also be getting the DLC pack sometime "in the coming weeks"; the game will be automatically updated when the DLC becomes available.

80p isn't that bad really but it is bogus to know PC players get it for free and XBOX players have to pay....... Eh, whatever, Bastion is awesome, this will give me a reason to go through the game again......

@toddx77  Well, looking at the history, ms didn't allow many updates for TF2 while on pc it did get it. if I'm not mistaken, PS3 version of TF2 was done by EA do it probably didn't get any updates.I suppose it'll be the same, it probably won't have many updates while on pc/ps3 will get them all. Just a few.

@zzamaro Ah I see. So what happens if say CS:GO has something similar to team fortress 2 in which valve wants to add all this free dlc to the pc and ps3 version and microsoft wants to charge for it? Would the dlc just not come to 360 or would microsofts policy require them to pull the game from live since the ps3 version would have more content?

zzamaro
zzamaro

@toddx77 Probably because it's not in-game content. It's a feature. That's what I meant. I can't think of other examples except for Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. It had extra content on PS3 but it wasn't in the disc, you had to download it.

@SolidTy Microsoft has rules in place that devs must charge money for content because they know suckers like you will buy it. M$ gets like 30%

toddx77
toddx77

@zzamaro Then why is Portal 2 and CS:GO allowed on 360? The ps3 version can play with pc and mac and to me that counts as more content lol. To me it sounds like Microsoft has an superiority complex lol.

I don't mind spending money to get the dlc. It's not much, and I would buy it normally, anyway.

Steam is Valve? Free DLC on Steam helps Valve? MS does this as well, MS is more then just Xbox, Windows?

@kkxtrouble "Its super funny people complaining about 1 $, do you guys live in a cardboard box?" It's not the first time M$ has done this. I can't how many times M$ has done this but with Left 4 Dead, M$ did this and the DLC did cost about 9 dollars while it was completely FREE on Steam. Read my first comments for proof. That's what companies like M$ want you to think if you believe 1 dollar isn't harmful. You'll how later those prices will increase.

zzamaro
zzamaro

@toddx77 Probably. Remember that M$ has crazy policies. I could bet you that if Portal 2 wasn't on PS3(in other words, console exclusive for M$), the recent DLC wasn't going to be free on X360 but FREE on Steam. Another of their policies is that they don't allow other consoles to have more content. If that happens, the game can't be on X360. That really sucks because they only are holding back games, and we get very short games. Finally, if a game a DL game isn't exclusive to LIVE, M$ won't want it. In the end, we all suffer for those policies.

@redeer Why not buy enough points for a future DLC or XBLA game that you want and spend the surplus on this DLC? I got a ton of points for the sales a few weeks back knowing that if I didn't see anything i wanted I could spend the points on Skyrim + Battlefield 3 expansions and minecraft and fez.

redeer
redeer

@kkxtrouble No, but it's just a hassle having to buy 5 bucks worth of points that i don't want, just to buy this. And I love this game so I am most definitely buying it.

Glad I picked this up on that Steam sale last week. Hopefully I'll have a free weekend this Spring to run through it.

If you're using a single measly dollar as ammunition in a platform war, you might want to step back from the keyboard and take a hard look at your life and what you're doing with it.

lol at the x-children. Enjoy paying for everything. you know what is a superior service? The internet. When you use Xbox LIVE you're paying for it twice, plus you're paying for ads.

@Dr_McTeabag I know what you mean. Bastion is o-k, but I think it's gotten more praise than it deserved, personally. There are better Arcade games, imo. But this $1.00 DLC pack might be worth getting if I decide to finally sit down and play through Bastion.

Ovirew

@Vari3ty 'Downloadable content' refers to add-on content in particular usually. Downloadable games are usually called Arcade games, or something else on PSN.

@toddx77 Obviously not everything is reviewed to see if it is working correctly to get on Steam. Sword of the Stars 2 and Dead Island make that obvious. That's still no reason to have to charge for it though

toddx77

@tachsniper or maybe live wasn't hacked because the hackers are 360 fanboys. It would explain why psn (ps3), steam, (pc), nintendo's website (nintendo), and sega's website were all hacked and no information stolen was used. I'm not saying microsoft did the hacking but it looks like the hacking was done by people trying to make live and the 360 look like the most superior choice.

It's going to be tough for me to get used to this whole digital thing. DLC for DLC? Hmm... this doesn't bother me as Bastion is a great game, but for other games, I'm not so sure...

to all the people upset at Microsoft, Listen, everything on XBLA and your monthly sub goes to making LIVE a superior service. Notice how LIVE was not hacked? I rest my case.

@zzamaro I just read that link and am I reading that right? Microsoft charges for DLC because they have to review it? I don't know where to start with that. Im sure Valve already reviewed the DLC to make it steam ready and yet they don't have to charge. I think the real reason is because microsoft only wants people playing their games. Thats probably why no TF2 DLC came to 360. In 2007 Orange Box came out along with Halo 3 (360 exclusive), and MW1 (non official 360 exclusive). Microsoft probably wanted to spend more money on DLC for their games instead of Valves. Seriously $1? First Microsoft won't let live sync with steam like psn and now charging $1 for DLC? I hope no other publisher picks up on this.

Quit QQ about PC/Steam players... its $1... Better yet, buy a PC, and game on it.

lol, that's why M$ sucks. This also happened with L4D. They charged for DLC on Live, but it was being offered for FREE on Steam.
