Assassin's Creed Unity Delayed, Now Launching Alongside Assassin's Creed Rogue

Ubisoft confirms both games will arrive on November 11.

Assassin's Creed Unity has been delayed by two weeks, Ubisoft announced today. The Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC game is now expected to launch on November 11 alongside Assassin's Creed Rogue for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Previously, Assassin's Creed Unity was scheduled to debut on October 28.

Ubisoft senior communications manager Gary Steinman explained on the Ubisoft blog that the developer needed more time to fine-tune and polish "little things" before the game is ready.

"A tiny gesture that Arno makes as he's racing across the Parisian rooftops. A barely noticeable reaction from a solitary NPC in a crowd 3,000 deep. The subtle swaying motion of an opulent chandelier in a lavish ballroom," he said. "It's these little things, multiplied by the thousands, that a development team focuses on during the final push to ship a game. And with a massive open-world title like Assassin's Creed Unity, all those little things add up fast. Toss in the fact that Unity has been built from the ground up as a new-gen Assassin’s Creed--and that final straight-line sprint to the finish suddenly feels like an obstacle course laden with curves, hurdles, and pitfalls."

For his part, Assassin's Creed Unity senior producer Vincent Pontbriand said making a game from the ground up for new consoles has been a challenge. "This being a fully next-gen game, it requires a lot of work, a lot of production, and a lot of learning," he said. "It's always hard to be precise and to quantify exactly how much work is involved. So as we get close to the finish we often realize we're near the target but we're not quite there yet."

Ubisoft will continue to work on Assassin's Creed Unity up until launch day, culminating with a day-one patch that will offer "even more improvements" to the game. "We honestly appreciate their commitment to the game and their patience," Pontbriand said. "It's just a couple more weeks. And it's going to be worth it."

What is wrong with the heros eyes in Unity. They are too big and the pupils are oval with too much white like a reptile, making him look like an alien. One eye seems to be looking in a different direction to the other. They gotta fix that before release because he looks ill or some kind of freak. I could never attach to a google eyed freak …lol

They have to get the next gen engine perfect. Otherwise how else can think milk it for the next fifteen years on the new consoles?

I am all for making sure its quality is high, otherwise what's the point if players don't get to see what they are anticipating from this high intensity game, but I wonder if 14 days are enough to complete the job they want to do!!!

Assassin’s Creed will now release North America on November 11 and in EMEA territories on November 13, 2014.

Not surprised in the slightest. And I bet it'll still be buggy and screen-tearing.

Wasn't planning on getting it right away anyway.

Waiting up the article update to say "Will release in 2015".

Talk about milking a series. Two releases in the same franchise within the same week.

Watching the last game play demo I noticed there was a lot of NPC pop in and there was women turning into men and men turning into women when they got closer to some of the NPCs.

Sorry to say I won't be picking up Rogue right off the bat. I will be too occupied with Destiny, and Unity will take over after that. I really desire to have a reason to play my PS4, and I want to finally make the transition away from my PS3. So if I do get Rogue, it will be later on Ubi.

I can deal with a 2 week delay. When I saw the article title I thought it was getting pushed to 2015 or something. Actually, I'd be alright with that. This fall's release schedule is so jam packed, a delay to 2015 would be alright with me. From September-November I've got like 7 games coming to my doorstep.

Damn right! If those chandeliers weren't swaying I'd have been absolutely furious.

They've got three games so close to each other now. Ubi won't be able to milk it first day as good as they could have in October. They messed up something serious it seems.

Thats ok, you need to play rogue first anyway as unity happens after in terms of timeline.

What I see nowadays...

Dev: OK we need to delay the game for flatten out the bugs.

Gamers: Are you kidding me ? I am cancelling my preorder. Can't you get it right ? You are not getting my money for 2 week delay.

Dev:OK. Gamers wants games. Let our games be released quickly.

Gamers: So many glitches !! Greedy asses ! They could have taken another month but no, they were greedy enough to release a half baked game

I really don't understand the way these guys think. I don't really mind waiting for a game a month longer, but I thought these devs are practically run by marketing strategists, businessmen. What are they thinking? We're all in a dry season right now, but everyone plans on releasing their games at the same time. Do they think people are going to buy all games that month? Aren't they obsessed with day 1 sales? I mean, I understand competition, -- although I don't understand self-competiton, -- but this is just ridiculous.

Is there ANYTHING left to be released in October?  Geez...

Probably needed a bit more time to squeeze in yet another stupid eavesdropping mission.

So they delay it and still need a day one patch? why they announce launching dates if not everything is ready anyway?

October/November is going to be a VERY expensive month for me.  Alien Isolation, DriveClub, Shadow of Mordor, Dragon Age, The Crew, Farcry4, and AC Unity.  Also have to find some time to play all these.

Phew! I can wait another fortnight for this game... The headline had me worried for a second

@justerthought Never really noticed his face, although he has the best looking costume of all the AC's. Anyway, nobody really likes a pretty boy. I'd expect an assassin to look somewhat strange and menacing.

Yep and rogue is a black flag reskin with new cutscenes

Dont buy it, your encouraging them to profit by quick reskins of previous games

@xsonicchaos Rogue and Unity are being marketed to two different demographics. Rogue for people who are still running only "last gen" consoles and unity for people who have made the jump.

If someone likes Assassins creed enough they will get both. Otherwise people will get the one that applies to their console situation.

@isshiah Alien Isolation, Evil Within, Driveclub....but yeah October was looking crazy for a while until delays stripped it somewhat.

ritamray32

Oh please, there won't be any auto-fail missions, let alone those traditional eavesdrop

megablast16

@Richie_Kotzev The delay will be to work on the patch, to be fair they could have released the game on it's original date and then the patch two weeks later but they've decided to delay the whole game instead.

fillup0

@Richie_Kotzev They can't make changes during the licensing process which typically lasts a month. Rather than just sitting around fumbling with themselves they'd rather fix some bugs in the form of a patch.

mymomma69
mymomma69

they probably just want us to preorder it by giving us the release date we want to hear

Black_Hand_313
Black_Hand_313

@mymomma69 You could buy the one that will keep you occupied the longest first - the rest may go on sale by the time you're done with it

@mymomma69

Pay for them in installments for the next couple of months. That's what I'm doing. And I did that for both AC4BF and WatchDogs. Takes some of the financial pressure off.

bigbadcrawford

They are reskining black flag in rogue, to milk the old gen one last time.

@OldDirtyCR

I like AC games, but I won't buy them both that month. Ok, now you.

And why are you only thinking of consoles? The games also come on PC. What's the justification for that?
