Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag DLC skipping Wii U

Ubisoft confirms that recently announced DLC will not be available for Wii U version of upcoming action game.

by

The downloadable content announced this week for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag will not be available on Wii U, an Ubisoft representative confirmed with Polygon today.

A press release announcing the content this week did not mention Wii U whatsoever.

No explanation regarding why the Wii U is being passed over was provided. DLC for Assassin's Creed III was available on Wii U.

The main chunk of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag DLC revolves around the nine-mission single-player storyline Freedom Cry. This is set fifteen years after the events of the main campaign, and casts players as Edward Kenway's first mate Adewale, who's now a fully trained assassin, but finds himself shipwrecked in Saint-Domingue with no crew or weapons.

A season pass will also provide the Kraken Ship Pack, which gives owners more customization options for Kenway's Jackdaw ship. This will not be available to purchase separately, Ubisoft said.

Ubisoft also said additional DLC will provide players with more single-player missions, weapons, skins, and collectibles, alongside new characters for the game's multiplayer modes.

All of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag's DLC will be released before March 2014.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag launches on October 29 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii U. Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC versions will follow in November.

Gamestop still has DLC listed as a pre-order bonus for Wii U glad I saw this first. I was really interested in picking this up on Wii U to, thought the gamepad features looked really interesting. May wait  for my PS4 to get here now. They should really do a price drop like they did with Batman: AO if they are not going to offer all the features of the other versions, then I might consider picking it up.

It seems that  Ubisoft is changing its mind on supporting WiiU

9 single player missions?!! That's it? I hope they're really long missions.

I guess developers don't like the Wii U.

Couldn't care less (speaking as a Wii U owner). I've got a pre order waiting for Xbone and I'll probably buy the PS4 later if there are any games I want to play that are exclusives.

Allthough I am not a fanboy and like all the consoles equally for their different features, I must say it's pretty sad to see what is undoubtedly a fall for the once mighty Nintendo. They have definitely not played their cards right with the Wii U, which is apparent in the lack of 3rd party development support. They are still grinding the Mario/Zelda formula on a machine with soon to become lackluster hardware when Xbone and PS4 hits the streets. Not to mention the Wii U's inferior online capabilities that is making it hurt even more. I am pretty sure Nintendo will do a Sega in the near future and develop games for the other consoles whilst maintaining control over the DS and hanging on to their handheld's for dear life.

Peace out from Norway!

And why they release the pc version later again? Like I care any AC game, but I'm just wondering why they still do that.

We could be over thinking this, Wii U is not getting the season pass but that dose not mean it wont be getting the same DLC from the season pass witch you can buy individually at a later date. Like the Metro Last light season pass, you can buy the same DLC from that  individually.

Kind of surprised to hear this since Ubisoft seems to be one of the bigger Nintendo supporters when a lot of third party devs are looking elsewhere.  That and I don't quite understand why they'd skip it.  If the full game was made for the system, I don't see where there should be any issue releasing DLC for it.  Is it because DLC on the Wii U isn't as popular as other systems?

I don't usually buy DLC, but still a bad move by Ubisoft, to all their Nintendo fans.

meh. I think DLC is a ripoff anyway. I'd have no problem buying the Wii U version.

Lame.  Looks like I'll be picking this one up on the 360 then.

That's highly unfortunate. I have AC3 on my WiiU. However this time around I'll be getting AC4 for my upcoming Xbox One. Still though I hate to see devs under cutting and underrating a good system.

And Ubisoft will then scratch their heads as to why the Wii-U version sold the least.

I am sick of these business practices. Either release the full game or skip the platform.

Unfortunate, but not surprising news.

And here come the trolls to bash Nintendo over a business practice that meant to screw them over.

I like how he is pretending like the ps4 and xBone are the pinnacle of technology...... News flash, the ps4 is on par with a low end gaming budget PC, and the xBone is even slower than that.

The xBone is only 3x faster than the Wii U, it's not exactly this OMG piece of kit. (300/400 gigaflop Wii U compared to 900ish gigaflop xBone)

There is going to be a lot of surprised gamers when reality brings them down to earth regarding ps4/xBone.

Ubisoft said it all when they confirmed Watch Dogs for both ps4/xBone will run at 30 fps. When asked if it would at least render at 1080p, the developer dodged the question.... Apparently Nextgen will look a lot like last gen save for some updated shaders/effects (Cinemablend had the story last week)

@Samuz Yes, it looks tough for Nintendo. I am not sure if Wii U will be their last console or not. We need to give them an additional year or so until other platforms are released and expectations are aligned. But it certainly seems like an uphill battle for Mario Co..

My wallet is skipping this game . Confirmed.

@Redblaze27 They are releasing the full game though, just not DLC which is probably an extra bit of the story with extra missions.

@NagaSadow @Samuz You sound like more of an idiot for trying to manipulate someone's decisions! You need to grow up and accept others decisions especially when your opinion was never asked for! You're a child no matter how old you may be because your rambles to try make someone feel stupid for their right to choose whatever they please is worse than anything! You make the world sad and you're no benefit at all!

snaketus

So they are not releasing the full game then

bennehftw

@Jami393 @snaketus A full game used to be the norm way back when. Expansions used to actually add to the game, but not be integral to really finishing the story.

These days AAA's will rarely ever release a "full game"

Jami393
Jami393

@snaketus A full game is what they release on the disc, or that same content on the disc as a digital download.
