Now Playing: Apex Legends Season 4 – Assimilation Gameplay Trailer

On Apex Legends' main website, Respawn wrote that the Season 4 map changes are "to get players to make new decisions." The developer added that its goal this season is to "offer new ways for you to approach the game, and in this case the map, so that each drop, rotation, and gunfight feels as fresh as possible."

The most notable change coming to World's Edge is the Planet Harvester, which is replacing Fuel Depot in the middle of the map. It's pretty big--featuring an enclosed multilevel design. "Fights are largely self-contained as squads will tend to enter the fight through the long hallways that lead to the center of the structure," Respawn wrote. "This should make 3rd parties a little more predictable and hopefully easier to defend against."

Capitol City will also be cut in two with the start of Season 4, with a river of lava separating the two halves. Thus, the single landmark will now be two--Fragment East and Fragment West. There are three surefire ways for any squad to cross the lava: a zipline, a bridge, and gliding on the heat updraft from the lava. The zipline is fast but leaves you exposed. The bridge gives you a bit more cover but you may encounter another squad coming from the other side. You can ride the lava updraft from anywhere along the river, but doing so is slow and you'll take 25 damage. If you have a Pathfinder or Octane on your squad, their ultimate abilities can be used to cross as well.

The final change occurs in the small outcropping of fields and jagged hills in the space between Epicenter, Skyhook, and Refinery. In Season 3: Meltdown, there was no reason to go there, unless you were looking to redeploy or resurrect your teammates. In Season 4, however, you'll now find the new Survey Camp landmark. In the Survey Camp, you'll find new weapon racks, which guarantee certain weapons every time you drop there--giving you the option to land somewhere where you may not get the armor and items you want but can always find the same collection of weapons if you have a favorite loadout you always want.

Respawn has also teased that these aren't the only changes coming to World's Edge before the transition to Kings Canyon in the latter half of Season 4. One more legend will have a town takeover before the transition. So far, Octane, Wraith, and Mirage have had town takeovers, so the new one will likely be themed around one of the other nine.
