The report also claims that Schumer and her sister, Kim Caramele, will write a new script, taking over for original writer Hilary Winston. For her part, Winston said on Twitter that the news is "not official," though she added that she had Schumer in mind for the role.

According to Variety, the story is along the lines of Enchanted and Big, in that the main character finds herself kicked out of Barbieland and thrust into the real world. It's expected to open in summer 2018.

Schumer wrote and starred in the 2015 Judd Apatow comedy Trainwreck.

Barbie is one of the best-known toys on the planet. A Game Developer Barbie toy was released earlier this year, as 2016's "Career of the Year" model.
