Ambitious Racing Game The Crew Announced for Xbox 360, But Not PS3

Ubisoft's racing game no longer exclusive to current-gen and PC.

[UPDATE] Ubisoft tells GameSpot, "The Crew is originally built for the new generation of consoles, so when we made the decision to port it to the previous generation, we decided to focus solely on the platform closest to the new-gen's technical infrastructure, which is the Xbox 360."

"We are not currently working on a version for PS3 or Wii U and are focused on delivering The Crew for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Xbox 360 simultaneously on November 11."

The original story is below.

Ubisoft's ambitious upcoming racing game The Crew is no longer exclusive to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Ubisoft announced today that the title is now also headed to Xbox 360. There was no mention of versions of the game for PlayStation 3 or Wii U.

The Crew launches November 11 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4, and PC. As for why Ubisoft is bringing the game to a last-generation console, the publisher says it's all about meeting gamers where they are (as long as that's not PS3 or Wii U).

"It's Ubisoft's objective to continue to meet the needs of consumers who have not yet made the move to the new console generation," Ubisoft marketing executive Tony Key said. "The Crew was originally built for the new generation of consoles, but we have always had a desire to make it accessible to as many people as possible. We're excited to bring The Crew's same core features, massive scope, mission variety, and overall driving experience to Xbox 360 players."

The Xbox 360 version of The Crew is in development at Asobo Studio (Fuel, Toy Story 3), with support from Ubisoft's offices at Ivory Tower, Ubisoft Reflections, and Ubisoft Shanghai. We have followed up with Ubisoft to ask why the game is not also coming to PS3 or Wii U.

Ubisoft also announced today that a closed beta for The Crew will be held on Xbox One and PS4 starting in "late September." Information on how to get into the beta will be announced at a later date, the publisher says.

Is micro transaction in a MMO really surprising ?

I mean they are gonna update the game every two months with new cars, parts and custumisations.

They do need a money for maintainence.. At least its optional and not a monthly subscription like Elder Scrolls Online

Instead of getting it one the Xbox One, I guess i'll be getting it for the Xbox 360.

The fact that it's on any last gen console makes me doubt its quality.

Make since for Asobo Studio doing The Crew because they did Fuel and that game had a recorded breaking huge open world and The Crew has a huge world too.

Makes sense. While almost most of the PS3 owners have already migrated to PS4, many Xbox 360 owners are not convinced to move to the x1

Ubisoft has an office called Ivory Tower?  That explains a lot.  Is there also one called Cathedral?

Ready yourselves: massive graphics downgrade to an already not so pretty game incoming.

this just goes to show ubisoft just has limited knowledge when it comes to developing for more advanced console architecture. 360 ps4 xone and 360 are all pc based consoles.

surly this will red ring a 360

Sorry Ubi, I'm getting the game on PS4 if I get it at all.....

also games need to be strictly for next or last gen, pick a side and run with it, we on next gen don't need last gen holding us back....I say this for all of games, not just this one....

based on  some stuff I've seen and livestreams of the game I have doubts this'll be any good.......

In other words - "Microsoft paid us lots of money for X360 version"

Well, to be fair, having played the beta, I wasn't really impressed by the graphics, but the driving and exploration is amazing. I don't know about the story though. So far, it looks like the same generic bullcrap of undercover and revenge. This isn't a big deal news.

How is Sony going to stop supporting last gen, while they have next to nothing to show for the current gen...?

Maybe they put all their chips on their NEW EXCLUSIVE racing game!!!!

Really a big FU to their PS3 crowed though.

Not surprised to see this not coming to the PS3, it's architecture is a lot different compared with the other consoles. The 360 is a lot more like the X1/PS4/PC architecture.

Wow if Asobo studio can get the port right, it would be impressive how XBox 360 can handle such a big and diverse map. Respect

Who cares?

Driveclub, Forza Horizon 2, and Project Cars makes this game look Pre-K.

Could this be a case of it simply not being announced yet?

Don't really care, I have 3 platforms that support the game; just seems odd it would not come to PS3.

Hmmm. Seems like MS still supports it's players from the last generation's console, while Sony is pushing you to buy their new console.

Microsoft looks good here.

@sonofdark18 Which means that you don't own an XBox One.  Congratulations on that revelation in decision making.

@TristanPR77 You act like all owners of one or the other system have to later obtain its successor.  Like it's part of their personality or race.  People buy whichever system seems to be superior, and the PS4 is dominating the Xbox One in that respect.

Almost most ps3 owners have migrated to ps4? WHAT??? There are 75 million ps3 owners. You saying that there are "almost" that many ps4 owners? Let me give you a hint. Not even close.

Dude. Get a clue.

Have you seen one, just ONE GAMEPLAY

The game is not about graphics. It never showed or aimed to be like Drive club graphics. Plus unlike watch dogs the game can handle the current graphics and gameplay because it already had a closed beta.

Graphics this, graphics that. The next gen gamers just need something to whine about

(PS Graphics doesnt matter, I still play counterstrike or road rash and enjoy it)

Or...it's what they said. PS3 is a pain to develop for. It's no secret.

@Saidrex a company paying a lot of many to put the game in a previous-gen console, in my opinion, is not bad, in fact in my country there aren´t any next gen console and im very happy for this :D

sorry for my english

@b00me

There is nothing comparable in the new generation of consoles and the 360 or PS3. Both those consoles are PowerPC based architecture compared to the x86 architecture of the new gen or PCs. The only reason that it is ported to 360 more than PS3 or WiiU is that it is probably easier, through the developpement tools, to port from x86 to the 360. A 360 as more in common with old Macs(G3,G4,G5) or the PS3 than with a PC or the new generation of consoles.

b00me
b00me

@christiaan1996  Has nothing to do with disc size and graphics. It's about the work required for the port, and the 360's architecture is similar to the PS4/X1/PC architecture. Sony went with it's own architecture for the PS3 and it's not developer friendly.

rarerichz

@fulfledgedgamer 360 has had no exclusives for like 3 years now , its crap , this is like the only one lmfao.

grizzlybearowns
grizzlybearowns

@fulfledgedgamer What? This is Ubisofts decision, not Sony. Dumbass. And all 360 and PS3 would agree that sony gave the ps3 much better support in the last couple of years. What exclusives did 360 get in the last 3-4 years. God you look like a dumbass.

vader501st
vader501st

@woodyfr Stick to the Atari 2600, then.

fulfledgedgamer
fulfledgedgamer

@grizzlybearowns @fulfledgedgamer

Actually developers communicate with console's companies to decide whether or not it's a good fit for their system. It has to do with one just as much as it does with the other.

I'm like 90% sure Sony just didn't want to invest the extra money it would take for the company to develop it for their PS3.

You're pretty rude by the way.

Duttyhandz
Duttyhandz

@grizzlybearowns @fulfledgedgamer  Halo 4, Reach, Gears of Wars 3. On PS3, they had Uncharted 2-3, Last Of Us. On 360, lots of new apps have appeared in the last years, greatly improving the entertainment capabilities of the console, where the Sony didn't do much.

b00me
b00me

@grizzlybearowns True, it was Ubisofts decision. It was Sony's decision to use a system architecture that is not developer friendly in the PS3. The 360's architecture is similar to the PS4/X1/PC architecture, it's a lot easier to port it to that console.

woodyfr
woodyfr

@vader501st Stick to micro transactions to help you unlock all the cars... :D That's what video games are these days.

If I want nice graphics I watch a movie. Games will always be full of bugs and glitchs. A racing game doesn't need the best graphics available if you drive with cars with bad handling it will be worse. But a lot of graphics geeks only look at the graphics not the gameplay. 4K or nothing, isn't it?

flaw600
flaw600

@Gen007 @b00me @christiaan1996 Exactly. 360 has nothing in common with PS4/X1/PC. It's just that its easier to develop for and, more importantly, Microsoft paid buts load of money.

flaw600
flaw600

@b00me @grizzlybearowns Again, not true - 360 has nothing in common with next-gem architecture. What is true is that the PS3 is not developer-friendly

vader501st
vader501st

@woodyfr Better hardware means better performance, at least most of the time. The racing genre is one of the most reliant on solid framerates and minimum input lag. It takes hardware to help with that, it's not all about shaders, textures, and lighting effects. All those assets are part of a game's graphics on its entirety.

So yeah, shockingly, graphics and gameplay are directly related to one another.
