Alien: Isolation runs in 1080p on Xbox One and PlayStation 4

Sega confirms resolution for both next-gen versions of upcoming survival horror game.

by

Alien: Isolation, the new survival horror sci-fi game from Total War developer Creative Assembly, will run in 1080p on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Sega revealed today on Twitter.

"Happy to confirm that the game will run in 1080p on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One!," the company said.

It is not clear, however, if both console versions of Alien: Isolation run in 1080p natively or if they will be up-scaled to that resolution. Sega said, "Right now, we're definitely aiming for native 1080p," but wouldn't confirm if this was locked in for the final game.

Alien: Isolation will also be released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, but not Wii U. The game launches this fall and stars Ellen Ripley's daughter Amanda. For more on Alien: Isolation, check out GameSpot's recently published preview.

ugh fudge I just watched the gameplay trailer and its supposed to be an amnesia copycat. Riply was killing aliens left and right (a2) come the F*** ON WHY CAN'T ANYONE GET THE FORMULA RIGHT ?????????? I wouldn't mind if it combined combat with amnesia style gameplay because that's pretty much what the movies are all about, but meh.

Passing on this. Amnesia experience doesn't interest me whatsoever, I want the full experience. There is simply 0 replay value in a game like this when you know what to expect afterwards.

lol if it runs at 1080p on xbox one we can pretty much guarantee the visuals will suck.

Well, the folks over at IGN did a gameplay commentary : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qbv9rs9bVOE

My impressions so far from that short YouTube video :

- player flashlight seems out of place and doesn't shine very far (even my phone illuminates a larger area)

- player character casts no shadow, ruining the immersion (most likely the body can't be seen either when looking down)

- items the player can interact with blink orange, ruining the immersion (let me figure it our for myself, game)

- picking up and selecting items triggers a lengthy animation to play (feels tedious already just by watching the video)

- picking up objects stores them in an invisible (unlimited size ?) inventory, ruining the immersion

- feels too linear and scripted (entering the airlock triggers the automated "push the door-close button and 'oh no' event")

Let's hope there's more than one death animation for when the alien kills the player because watching that same "you're dead now" animation over and over is going to get boring real quick.

I'm afraid the Alien AI may turn out to be "cheatable" or just plain stupid because near the end of the video it just stands there, waiting for the player to sneak around the box and get into the airlock. (perhaps just creditable to it being unfinished, but still)

Also, let there be more activity on the motion tracker (everything that moves) so to give the player false indications too. (for example, the moving object on the table wasn't picked up by the motion tracker - unless it only detects moving lifeforms)

For the love of god, enable anti aliasing when doing promotional videos. (unless this was the console version, in which case "haha" will do)

Graphics are pretty for the most part and the lighting sets a nice mood with well done environments, but if it's a linear walkthrough with the above mentioned "issues" then I'll most likely just skip it.

Please don't make the mistake of making it too accessible / too casual because this is exactly what this looks like at the moment - a game with a pretty solid base but gameplay for the mass market.

I get that it's a in development version, but already so many gameplay features seem out of place, so I'll remain skeptical.

Ripley's daughter? We all know she survived to old age if anyone watched Aliens.

Hold on a minute..

"Right now, we're definitely aiming for native 1080p," but wouldn't confirm if this was locked in for the final game.

Every game can be upscaled... this isn't even news or anything.

Nah, this game isn't impressing me. Walking around trying 'not' to see aliens is the opposite of what I want to be doing.

This game is too little, too late for alien franchise fans in general, after ACM and AvP 2010. I will NOT expect this title to do any better for that matter because CA does not know how to do action games after their first try Stormrise. Even if it bombed on consoles, the PC which is CA's bread and butter development platform will not do any better than the big 3 consoles, if not worse because of Total War: Rome II persistent bugs and performance problems on 2-3 year old hardware, and it's still having major issues, and that game had GOTY written all over it by the Total War fanbase after the success of Shogun 2 and the first Rome Total War. Until it was released on Steam and it was an unfinished beta (in my mind at least). So unless CA decides to split from Sega like Crytek did from EA, and take this franchise with it this game will fail, because of the stench of the last 2 games that were released by Sega.

Sega. Please.

Stop wasting money with marketing.

Get your ass out of Twitter, and go fetch some coffee for the developers.

Put the money on the game!

Appreciate the 1080p - hopefully at 60fps, but would be happier if the last few games along this franchise like didn't reek so badly. Still though will be glad to check it out - after the reviews have been out for a few months.

I'll wait until I see the comments from the gamers. The critics can't judge a game for shit nowadays. & also the last Aliens game that Sega put out there was ass. Yea a different dev this time but if Sega didn't step in & say hey this game is ass fix it the first time, what makes you think they'll do it with this game. & don't give me the bullshit excuse of meeting deadlines. They knew the game was ass & still put it out there because we the gamers were led to believe that it would be a good game. All that hype (yea I was hyped for the last game as well; it looked so good in the previews & trailers & the way they were describing it) for the game & it was ass. Very disappointing. So I'll wait & see what the brave/stupid sheeple will say about the game first.

Damn! Stop making all these cross generation games. We're never gonna get the full potential of our next-gen consoles as long as they keep making 360/ps3 versions as well.

Looks promising. These guys definitely know their Alien

Fingers crossed this will make up for that 2 hours I utterly wasted on Aliens "Steaming Pile" Colonial Marines.

Any game that is also on last gen games, should inherently run at 1080p native on the newer systems.

I'm pretty sure they are going to make it Native 1080p, looks like you are going to be in corridors and small areas , and maybe some big landscapes just to look from far away.

near the game's launch we'll see the real story, is xbox one really 1080p or not

Do we really need news articles like this?

"Hey guys, consoles aren't terribly out of date, honest!"

I'm getting real sick of seeing this.  What's next? Consoles able to power on?

i think the last really good alien game was the acclaim version of alien 3 that was released for every system but snes/sfam (since that system had its own version of alien 3).

its probably gonna be 10fps but upscaled to 30, its probably gonna 540p but up scaled to 1080p , and its probably gonna be ps3/360 graphics but upscaled to ps4/xbone graphics

At least they should have a pretty good idea on how not to make an Alien game.

I hope this is good because I've never truly played a great Alien/Predator game. The closest I ever got to a good one was Aliens vs. Predator.

@VodooDunno what your on about since PC has been able to play the games you have on your xbox 360 and PS3 for years with next gen or as close as graphics.  Also not everyone can afford Next Gen so its wise of them to release the games on older consoles aswell to rake in more profits.

darkrayne
darkrayne

@chadwick1343 Not really that simple. Texture quality, ambient occlusion, AA.. etc. are all additional graphics features that can be added, removed or tweaked. Just because COD: Ghosts is on both gens doesn't mean all the same graphic features are used in both versions. The new gen adds a ton of new effects that last gen just wasn't capable of.

@sakaixx

im pretty sure that question has already been answered being there are already games that run on 1080p on XBone.

You should pay more attention.

I am worried about that, too. Seems like they can make a longer game where you can play the alien who needs to hunt down the crew.

@Defender1978 It's not really that surprising considering the amount of 3rd party support Nintendo receives.

All I had to hear was the developers' explanation of their vision for the game to know that these guys get it. Previous Alien games, beginning with Alien vs. Predator on the Atari Jaguar, were primarily focused on action and combat (though AVP less so than later versions). The original movie wasn't about combat, it was all about building tension and so it appears, is this game. That's a great thing and long overdue.

The Resident Evil series was ruined, in my opinion, by the same misguided shift of focus in later installments to speed and action. What made the original so terrifying at the time was that the zombies were slow but relentless. You could easily outrun them but you never knew when you would encounter them and they never stopped pursuing you. Other than the original on the Playstation, I think the only other one that got it right was RE: Code Veronica on the Dreamcast.

Heck, the same lame focus on hyperactive arcade-style action has even ruined the Call of Duty series. It's easy to forget that at one time it was a game that actually involved some strategy and tactics, rather than just running around and knifing people at hyper speed.

I think the industry is long overdue for producing games that actually require some thought, and that appeal to a demographic other than hyperactive kids with zero attention span.

Count me in.

At least it's not an indie game. Like i always said, Aliens can be a great game, however incompetent people are responsible, i have great ideas for that series and other games in general.

Imagine you controlling an Alien and killing npcs humans in a big world just like Skyrim?
