Ahead of E3, PS4 company Sony trademarks Kill Strain and Entwined

PlayStation maker files trademark applications for unannounced games.

Ahead of June's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), PlayStation company Sony has filed two new trademark applications for unannounced games called Kill Strain and Entwined.

Sony filed its trademark applications with the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) on April 14 for Entwined and April 15 for Kill Strain. Both are listed as "computer game software."

According to public website records, Sony's North American branch registered www.killstrain.com in March 2014. Entwined.com, meanwhile, does not appear to be run or operated by Sony.

We have reached out to a Sony/PlayStation representative for comment and will update this post with anything we hear back. E3 2014 runs June 10-12, though Sony's briefing is expected to be held on Monday, June 9, ahead of the official start to the annual show.

Sony expects to release 100 games for the PlayStaton 4 in 2014, a point Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hyrb jabbed at during PAX East earlier this month.

I hope Kill Strain isn't another zombie game...

Kill Strain sound like what happens when you get a particularly bad bout of constipation.

Is Panasonic or Samsung buying the Playstation brand or something in the future? That's the only reason Eddie would question Sony being the Playstation maker...he's a time traveler and has seen Sony go bankrupt.

Eddie, can you please stop calling Sony the "PlayStation maker"?  Every gamer in here fucking knows who Sony is, and what they make.

I hope we learn something about these games at E3.  New IPs are always welcome.  We already know that Guerrilla Games is working on a new IP (rumoured to be an RPG of some sort), and I'm hoping that Quantic Dream makes something out of that demo they showed last year.

Anyone have any ideas what these other studios might be working on?

- Polyphony Digital
- SCE Bend Studio
- SCE Foster City Studio
- SCE London Studio
- SCE Santa Monica Studio

Media Molecule hasn't announced their new game yet and they showed that marionette demo a while back so maybe Entwined is their new game? Also Guerrilla has a new IP in the works and Quantic Dream has a PS4 exclusive they have yet to reveal. And of course Sony Santa Monica is working on something right now.

My thoughts, Kill Strain could be the next Guerrilla Games project that they hinted at a while back or it could be some dudebro shooter, orrrr knowing Sony, some quirky action game.

Entwined just sounds like another terrible David Cage Movie *COUGH* i mean game.

Nice, two new games being forced to be shown at E3 with unpolished code leading the entire gamer race to cry and moan about how the E3 graphics have been downgraded.

Rinse, repeat.

It's a good thing Gamespot said "PS4 company Sony", otherwise I'd have nooooo idea who Sony was. On topic, I hope these games turn out to be awesome, and I own a Xbox One. Nothing pleases me more than seeing more awesome A to AAA games out there for all gamers to be happy. If I could work (been sick since 2011) I'd own a PS4 for sure too. Hope to get one by 2016.

@Xirtahm  I think that is done on purpose so that these articles might be used/carried/whatever it's called in the biz by other organizations.  It's that standard thing you see all the time in articles from general news sources.

I think London is working on a game called Everyone's Gone to the Rapture. Santa Monica is assisting with The Order 1886 (check out 'The Pledge' trailer) and a new IP, also probably a new God of War with GoW 3's lead game directer back. The others in not sure about. Although it is highly rumored that Killzone dev Guerrilla Games' new IP, which it is known a new IP is coming from them, is an open world rpg. They hired a prominent Obsidian writer who worked on Fallout New Vegas and he lists his specialty on LinkedIn as "open world RPGs".

@StHapns247  And if they weren't shown people would bitch that there were no games. People find just about anything to bitch about nowadays, it's literally " fucked if you do, fucked if you don't ".

@LiquidGold  Why the hell would Sony trademark indie games, that would mean it's not independent...dictionary is a good thing to have handy.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Syphon Filter. Awesome

Stealth/Action about political interest in and of a biological weapon of catastrophic proportions.

@daviz88 Kill Strain sounds like a game from the Syphon Filter franchise, based on the naming scheme
