Illuminated Lantern has today announced the release of 1893: A World's Fair Mystery, a text-based adventure game in which players assume the role of a detective charged with investigating a diamond theft at the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago. The game is primarily text-based, but it is illustrated with more than 500 archival photographs from the event.

"I want players to feel like they are actually there," said Chicago historian Peter Nepstad, who designed, researched, and produced the game. "To wander the streets and halls of the Columbian Exposition and see for a moment the world as it was imagined then, to see the energy, the excitement, the naïveté, the hope that was the Gilded Age."

1893: A World's Fair Mystery is available now. For more information, you might like to check out the game's official site, which also allows you to order a copy of the game.
