$1.99 is the cost of turning a Call of Duty: Ghosts guard dog into a wolf

Getting 5 kills in a row will never be the same again.

by

Starting today, Call of Duty: Ghosts owners on Xbox One and Xbox 360 can pay $1.99 to replace the game's guard dog pointstreak reward with a wolf.

The cosmetic DLC (which will surely remind some people of the now-infamous horse armour DLC for Oblivion) will be available for other platforms at a later date, says Activision community manager Dan Amrich.

Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners of Call of Duty: Ghosts will also be able to get into the holiday spirit with a free festive camo pack, also released today. The game's alien-thwacking Extinction co-op mode will also be dishing out double XP this weekend.

The Guard Dog is a streak rewarded to players who get 5 kills without dying while using the assault strike package in Call of Duty: Ghosts. When active, the dog will run around near the player and likely prove to be a one-hit kill nuisance for the enemy team. It's probably not worth paying the $2 if you're only using the support or specialist strike packages.

US retailer GameStop is currently selling codes for the DLC for $3. "Transform your guard dog into a menacing wolf," reads GameStop's description.

I don't understand why everyone is freaking out over this and saying it should be free. They had to pay a guy to make it, so why shouldn't they charge for it? It doesn't change the game at all and provides no advantages so why is it such a big deal? Now, if they had made a supremely powerful gun that would give you an unfair advantage over anyone that didn't have it, and then charged for it, I would be pissed.

Dear Activision,

Take your piece of shit DLC and shove it up your ass. I swear an oath to never buy anything from activision and to trash your company at every possible chance.

Anyone who pays money for this shit should be ashamed of themselves.

It's our own fault.  As long as people pay for it, why would these companies stop?  Nobody was originally complaining when the game was first released saying "This is stupid, that dog should be a wolf."  It's when an additional choice is presented that people get all bent outta shape about it not being free.  I disagree with charging for aesthetic DLC, but when it comes down to it, gamers are CHOOSING to purchase these additions.

yeah i nvr bought an activision game and never will but when i heard about DS2 huvin special weapons preorders at different shops just killed it for me i am not even sure i want to go next gen anymore but if i did, will be the last God what happened to cheat codes, put a goal you achieve and get something out of it, the last game that i played and rly made me feel like a proper game !! is bayonetta i mean really It was rly like how a game had always been and should always be, join the cause and only buy GOTY editions or never full price for a cosmetic game with half content ( although there are exceptions mostly on ps3 and japanease :D )

This kind of stuff should be free-of-charge. WTF?

Immediately thought of the Oblivion horse DLC when I saw the title, and I'm glad I'm not the only one.  While this is certainly more reasonably priced, this is still $2 for something that arguably could just be free.

Nice idea, but too much for a simple re-skin for one.. If some of that money went to actually stopping the war on wolves in america i'd be all in.

Remember the times when in games you had to actually had to meet a certain criteria in the game to get something.  I miss those days

I love this sort of DLC.. In fact I want all DLC to be exactly this type of stuff.

Give us maps, enhancements, different games modes for free and make all DLC nice imaginative and purely cosmetic.

I know people are bemoaning this as rubbish.. but I think this is exactly where the DLC should be aimed...

.. and maybe extensive expansion packs (maps really don't count).

So stop your bitchin' girls and guys and support exactly this type of DLC!

I'm a little baffled when a season pass is already $50.

Using dogs as killing machine in war is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. They're good for searching. But in war they'll give your position away, they have a mind of their own and do things that will ruin your operations. And putting a dog against guys with guns, I bet you 100% of the time the dog will die, even if the dog manage to bite victim first. Dogs proved to be ineffective in war when there were no guns yet.

This reminds me of the horse armor from a few years ago. I can't remember what the game was though.

This news story is hilarious; not only do you have Activision charging for cosmetic skins now, you also get Gamestop selling it at 50% more than anywhere else.

It's kind of sad when all of the stereotypes are so accurate.

there should be a kind of device that would track down the people stupid enough to buy that DLC, and then a lightning would stike them down!

@Rhino_All back in the day us pc gamers used to get maps, skins and so on for free with every update\patch in all of our games. Only thing we ever had to pay for was expansion packs (story dlc's they would be called now) then console came along with dlc and ruined it for us. and now they have the audacity to charge money for one skin for a dog which you will probably only see\notice for about 10 percent of your play time anyway. the gaming industry is more greedy than ever before.

xXxIRyanxXx
xXxIRyanxXx

@Rhino_All Its a skin for a dog it should be free, a pack of 50 skins in Minecraft is the same price. This is a multibillion dollar franchise it can afford to give away a useless skin for free, especially if it is selling skins for weapons, and $15 map packs.

@raddys2001You still need to work hard to unlock things. It's just now it's working overtime to make extra money so you can buy all the things.

NitehawkFury
NitehawkFury

@gamespotpanayis I guess I don't see the difference between this and say, buying a skin for League of Legends. No one is forcing you, you don't have to buy it to play with people who have it, and it doesn't affect gameplay in the slightest. It's just for the fun of it. Not buying it does not affect your personal gaming experience at all.

@gamespotpanayis Wasting your money on this shit will not make other forms of dlc obsolete idiot. You just perpetuate these horrible practices dev's seem to think every gamer wants.

@ndmq and that is why you can change your dog into a wolf. For $2 it instantly becomes a more viable strategic option. :)
