SH2 sports some good looks and decent shooting, but is plagued with too many bugs. (contains spoilers)

User Rating: 6.8 | Army Men: Sarge's Heroes 2 PS2
Army Men: Sarges Heroes 2 for the PS2 follows the adventure of our beloved Sargeant Hawk, his Bravo company commandoes, and Vicky Grimm as they attempt to stop General Plastro & Bridgette Bleu from dominating the toy world using devastating real world toys such as robot shock troopers & scorpions.

The game mechanics are pretty much ported straight from the N64 so expect some sluggish tank like controls. You can side strafe, dive, lay on your stomach, crawl, kneel down and a few other moves to accomplish your mission. Sarge gets a bunch of weapons that range from grenades, mortars, and air strikes to shotguns, flamethrowers, and M-60 machine guns. Throughout the game you get to play as Vicky, Sarge's lover as well as his colonel's daughter, who moves & does everything exactly like Sarge.

The enemies you fight are numerous, not very creative, and easy. 90% of the game you'll be blasting your way through hordes of Tan soldiers, tanks, and helicopters. Every once in a while you'll fight a robot who gets taken down far too fast with only two grenades.. either way, its still pretty fun and they do overwhelm you at times. Every once in a while you'll have a teammate next to you who actually has a decent enough AI to shoot back at the Tans.

The voice acting was hilarious (its meant to be) and the music was great - imagine mixing heavy metal with army drum beats, every now and then throw in some techno riffs and you got Army Men: Sarges Heroes 2. Sadly, the sound effects easily brought the sound way down. The guns all sound like a rocket, and when they connect it sounds like your hitting a punching bag...even if its a wall. The explosions were alright, but still sounded very weak.

The graphics are the main highlight in the PS2 version of this game. It has, by far, the best graphics in the entire Army Men series.Everything looks real and has a perfect reflection, the lighting was superb, the plastic soldiers actually LOOK like plastic soldiers, and the FMV sequences really bring all the characters to life. Now I'm curious as to why this game looks so great, and then Sarge's War looked so bad??

Sadly this game is plagued with a TERRIBLE "auto aim" feature which doesn't work at all, clunky controls, and at times a very frustrating camera. When all these factors come together, it really drags down the gaming experience. Also, the game is real easy and ends even faster with about a total of 15 levels all lasting about 4 minutes each.

To sum it up, only die hard Army Men fans will really like this game. Though fun at first, later on the game just gets boring and seems to be missing that special something that made it a blast to play on the N64.
