Renewed visuals haven't fixed dated core logic and general inconsistencies of this otherwise intriguing game.

Another World can be played through in under 25 minutes with no shortcuts provided one knows the correct actions, order and is competent during the action segments and somehow doesn't run into any in-game issues issues. It took me and a friend around 4 hours before we gave up after running into several bugs (maybe?) and ridiculous triggers which moved the game forward. We watched the final minute or two on YouTube.

The first half of the game was actually quite strong, but as the game progressed, logic and reason involved in progressing became almost non-existent, giving way to a dull game of happenstance, trial and error; trying every single order of actions with different timing. I am yet to establish why shooting down a chandelier dislodges a metal plate in a small crawl space, allowing a man to crawl through the space and eventually save you. I haven't quite understood why standing in one spot causes an enemy to shoot you, however standing one step away prompts the same enemy to place explosives on the ground over and over again that crawl a set of stairs and eventually making a hole in the ground in the floor below for you to escape. I don't understand these things because they don't make sense.

I don't regret the hours spent playing it. I can see how the game mechanic might have worked in 1991, where the market wasn't flooded with so many high quality games and widespread internet use was still budding. It would have been a genuine adventure that could have lasted weeks.

The story, despite no words in any decipherable language save the title and credits, was charming. As were the bond created between the two protagonists. The cut-scenes, visuals and audio carved a fantastic, other-worldly atmosphere and the variety of environments were consistently stimulating.

Worth playing despite general frustrations.
