What? What?! Swing your racket you idiot!

User Rating: 4.5 | Andre Agassi Tennis SNES
I have this game for the Mega Drive and I thought I'd give the SNES version the once-over. I almost wish I hadn't. Firstly, being a tennis game, there is no plot. You choose one of the many players available and you can play a single match or enter the tournament, where you play knockout matches. The graphics aren't that bad, but they are not exactly good either. The court is always the same, and nothing ever changes in the background. the only difference you can have is whether you are playing on a grass court, an indoor court or a clay court (which just changes the colour of the ground). The character design is average, you can tell the difference between the players (different coloured shirts or shorts, hair length, and Agassi himself is sporting a nice headband). Other than that they look quite bleached and blocky. The sound is pretty average as well. The SFX are limited to racket-hitting-the-ball noises and the umpire stating the scores i.e. '15-love' and 'deuce' etc. There is an 80's sounding funky bass tune though that plays during the title screen and briefly between games of tennis, but it doesn't make it worthwhile. The gameplay is when things go from average to bad. A lot of the time when you try and hit the ball the ball just hits you and lands on the floor. Other times I found that I lost the ability to swing my racket at all! Other than that you can overhead strike the ball, underhand strike, and a normal strike. The game is quite boring with its limited options and should only be played by tennis enthusiasts (although they might find this game even more trying). Lastability-wise you could be at this for a while, as tennis is a long game, and you have to beat 4 opponents to win the tournament (providing you don't get beaten: this game is HARD).

Overview
Graphics - Quite blocky, static backgrounds
Sound - Funky 80s tune is the only good thing about the music, SFX are average and scarce.
Gameplay - Glitchy controls make it hard to play, various ways to hit the ball though. Very boring and similar all the way through.
Lastability - Will take a while if you persevere and don't get beaten.
