Varied, but extremely flawed.

User Rating: 5.5 | American Gladiators SNES
American Gladiators...even the name would be enough to put most people off playing this game. It is for the most part as bad as you would think, but there are a few saving graces. Firstly, the graphics are pretty terrible. They could have probably been made for a late NES game rather than the SNES. They are quite dull and unexciting. The sound is pretty bad too. There are next to no sound effects, and the music was I think one tune that was on loop throughout the whole game. The only saving grace to this game is the gameplay. Each event (like the TV show) is different and even uses different controls. There are a few events including Duel, The Wall, Gauntlet etc. Some of these events are simple button-bashing parts and others require a little more skill. This game is probably one of the earliest games in incorporate button-bashing, so it is maybe a precursor to later sports games like Track and Field on the PSX. Lastability-wise, well the game is quite short as each event only lasts a few minutes at most, and if you know the controls and methods of play then it is quite easy too. You'll be either finished or bored within an hour most likely.

Overview:
Graphics - Bland and boring
Sound - Dire
Gameplay - Varied game types with interesting control mechanisms
Lastability - Easy as pie, it's over before you know it.
