An awesome old school classic.

User Rating: 8 | Alien vs. Predator ARC
Before there was a horrible movie inspired by hordes of fanboy's, there were comics, and video games based on Alien vs. Predator. And while the premise isn't exactly thought provoking, the old arcade game was pure fun.

This game was set up in the old arcade style similar to X-men or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It involved 4 players if you wanted, and each character was different. You went through side scrolling levels basically just beating up any bad guys you came across. This is now called a button masher. But back then it was called kick-ass.

You could choose from two predators (One with a white mask and one with a tan mask....yeah I know. BIG difference). And you could also play as 1 of 2 humans: A man with a a robotic arm and huge pecs, and a woman with ninja skills and huge pecs. I guess the man is VAGUELY based on Arnold Swartzenegger's role in Predator, and the woman is VAGUELY based on Sigourny Weaver's role in Alien.

So the "story" is this: Aliens land on Earth. Predators hunt the Aliens. Humans don't want to die from Aliens. So they join forces with the Predators to kill the Aliens. But who cares. The game isn't known for it's story. It's known for it's awesomeness.

The graphics and gameplay are really similar to anything Capcom has ever done back in that era. Big Anime characters punching things and screaming words you can't understand while they do it. And while it's not completely original, there is something really fun about a side scroller with big colorful aliens to beat up...level after level.

It's big. It's noisy. It's violent. It's predictable. It's short. And it's fun. I guess it just brings out the kid in me again. So if you want to relive the days of being a kid, spending all of your allowance on a game that will probably last you less than 20 minutes, sipping a soda that you placed on the arcade machine, touching a joystick that had been touched by god-knows-what, going deaf from all the game noises, and avoiding the "creepy guy" in the arcade while NOT being in a class that would have helped you make something of yourself...then revisit this game.
