User Rating: 6.4 | Airport Tycoon 2 PC
I'm a big fan of the airport. All them lovely coffee bars, attractive female stewardesses and them hugely uncomfortable seats. With that in mind, I looked forward to revamped Airport Tycoon 2, over the rather dismal Airport Tycoon. I however was a little disappointed with the over-simplified terminal interior section, which constitutes of the user placing "blocks" of facilities, shops etc. into a space grid. There is a little space management to be undertaken when the business deals start rolling in, however, no 3D terminal, no 3D coffee bars and no 3D attractive female stewardesses. The exterior however, has improved slightly over Airport Tycoon, with planes at least acting like planes, however some of the aircraft animations are slightly simple, which take the polish off the title. At least, you can see the aircraft land, taxi, refuel and take-off, and the supply trucks, fuel lorry etc. roll up to a new aircraft arrival, which is quite satisfying when you've spent thirty minutes in the early stages of the game, waiting for an aircraft. The other facilities in the game offer some extra distraction, especially with the contracts and business deals section, allowing the user to negotiate deals with hoteliers, petrol station companies, catering services and numerous airport orientated businesses. The graphics could have been so much better however, with roads not joining correctly at junctions, cars looking like moving boxes, planes modelled in 5 polygon glory and texturing not always up-to-scratch. Sound could have also have been better, but in its current state, is workable. In conclusion, a worthy game if you cross your eyes and can imagine them 3D stewardesses. Wait for the budget bin before grabbing this one...
