I really fell in love with this game. Although it did have some horrible flaws, this is still an amazing game!

Advent Rising... when I first heard of this game, I was hoping it wasn't going to disappoint, especially since my favorite writer of all time (Orson Scott Card) was helping write it (I loved Ender's Game and the sequels... all of Card's work is amazing and genious!). As the time was coming closer to release, I pre-ordered the game, and couldn't wait for it to come out. Once it did, I began playing this game, and played it until I beat it. Despite the bad reviews (almost everyone thought that this game sucked!) I though that this game was really good, with some really bad flaws, but that didn't, in my opinion, mean that the game sucked that bad.

The story is really cool (I didn't think it was that generic... but hell, even FF 7 was generic in terms of RPGs... I mean, come on people!). The story revolves around humanity being wiped out, and only a coupe of people survive. Another alien race wants to help you, and that's where the story begins... humanity realizing that there are other beings in the universe. That, in a brief nutshell, is the premise for the story.

The graphics are really good. The CGs are amazing! These are some of the best graphics that I have seen in a long time... too bad there is quite a lot of slow down though, and the character models are quite odd (even I thought that having those huge legs was weird). The sound is really good though, with some amazing music and effects. The problem is that the music cuts in and out sometimes, and it's annoying as hell when it does that.

The real problems with this game have to do with the camera most of the time. It moves to your target when you target them, and because of the targeting system (which is a good idea, but not refined enough) you can be running and all of a sudden the camera juts back and forth because of the targeting moving all over the place. This can really hinder running through an enemy infested area to avoid enemies!

The magic and spells and all are really cool, and leveling up is fun and pretty tight with new powers and such. This game has some big enviroments, and they look really sweet. I'm not talking Halo 2 status, but they're good in their own right.

Overall, this game just isn't very polished, but I still fell in love with it. The story was timeless, the characters and voice acting were amazing, and the music was dramatic at some poingent times. I felt that this was a very dramatic game, much like Card's books, but it had some glaring problems. I just hope they will continue the series, because the ending left me wanting so much more! Too bad it probably won't happen... and that's just really too bad. Try this game out at least, you'll really enjoy it!
