The greatest adventure of all time

Ok, maybe not the greatest, but this is the only game I have owned on every system I have ever owned (I actually bought it for C64 before I had one of my own).

My fondest memories of the game is from way back in the pastel-coloured 80s where load and save times meant that you could sit calmly and chat with your face (face to face, mind you) for ten minutes before the game needed any kind of attention again.

Depending on the system this is a game that have many hours of of game time in it, on the C64 me and my buddy must have played it for days before we finished it, though it must be said that our English may have had room for improvement seeing as it isn't my first language and we had only had it in school for a year or so. But, that didn't stop us.

The "incredible" load times (by modern standards) allowed us to make things up about the six player characters you control in the game. These are picked from five races with four different classes as well as multiclass. This means that you have a great deal of flexibility and can make your party fit your personal style of play.

The game sends you on a quest to clear the ruined city of Phlan, block by block, to discover the identity of a terrible enemy. While the roleplaying aspect of the game may be limited in comparison to some of the modern roleplaying games, like Neverwinter Nights, it is still an exciting story. The quest pits you against goblins and orks, undead, enemy mercenaries and other assorted monsters, as well as letting you cope with diplomatic missions and betrayal.

The graphics are the same for all platforms, but the load times vary greatly. If you grow tired of playing games that take up 4 GB and only give you 5 hours of game time then why get your hands on a game that will give you five time sthe gaming and which can be stored on and old 1,44 floppy disk.
