Okamoto, SCE broadband architect, resigns
PlayStation group of Japan loses one of its lead visionaries.
Sony Computer Entertainment announced the departure of its chief technology officer Shinichi Okamoto, effective immediately.
Officially, Sony has given no explanation for his resignation but says in a statement that Okamoto may still continue to work for SCE in some unspecified capacity.
Okamoto worked as the head of the broadband sector for the PlayStation 2 and has also been active in the development of the console's next generation operating system, aimed for use with the CELL microprocessor.
In contrast to the official statement, a number of unofficial game sites in Japan are discussing the news and are hinting at a new, non-Sony-related, venture Okamoto will likely announce.
