FIFA World Cup 2010 South Africa... FIFA 10 rip off or not?

User Rating: 7 | 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa PS3
So what makes South Africa 2010 so different to FIFA 10 that it's worth buying?

Yes it has international teams of the world cup, as well as the tournament itself, but honestly its a waste of money. South Africa 2010 as a stand alone game is 'feature-less' compared to FIFA 10.

FIFA 10:

Graphics and sound: 10/10

I played FIFA 10 with a HDMI Cable on a 1080i HD TV, which looks amazing. The animations of the players and the precision looks crystal clear. I also played it on my cousin's TV which isn't HD, and it looks absolutely fine, and besides, it's the gameplay that matters.

The audio quality is great, and the soundtrack is what is expected of a FIFA game.

Gameplay: 9.5/10

Honestly, FIFA 09 gameplay is nothing different compared to FIFA 10, despite the '360 degrees dribbling' they brag on about. I believe it would be so much better if there were updates for the games, updating their strips and transfers because lets face it, their all the same! Enough about that, the game play for all FIFA games is without a doubt magnificent. Invite a few mates over and play FIFA, no problem, pass a few hours easily 'its FIFA or its nothing' as my mates always say when they come over.

Passing the ball in FIFA 10 is great, and you can do almost whatever you want with the ball with enough experience. The 360 degrees dribbling is nothing special, it just has a bit more realism when dribbling and receiving the ball.

Default Camera View: 10/10

Perfect. Enough said. You can always change the camera view if you desire, but honestly why would you? Its great, and is what you expect from a FIFA game.

Team Variation: 10/10

This is the area in which FIFA 10 shines over South Africa 2010. FIFA 10 has the Premier League, and over 30 other leagues around the world, giving you a greater experience when it comes to technique and players you face. You can play as Manchester United, as well as your favourite International teams, making South Africa 2010 look like peanuts compared to FIFA 10.

Tactics: 9.5/10

The tactics are great. You can re-arrange the formations as you wish and throughout the game you can apply certain tactics such as 'offside trap' and 'offensive attack'. It makes the game more realistic when facing various teams.

Now lets evaluate South Africa 2010:

Graphics and sound: 9/10

Honestly, the graphics are nothing to brag about. I honestly believe the camera view that is present in South Africa 2010 doesn't give room for great graphics compared to FIFA 10's simple camera view, and "stand out" graphics.

The audio quality and soundtrack in South Africa 2010 is considerably greater compared to FIFA 10. It's a debatable topic, however I believe the soundtrack sets the atmosphere of the World Cup, and makes it that little bit more exciting.

Gameplay: 9/10

The gameplay is good compared to the previous World Cup game, however is nothing compared to FIFA 10. I found that it is extremely easy to score in the game, and set pieces are easier to put away. However taking penalties is much greater that FIFA 10, as it is less easy to score which gives it a sense of realism. It is an opinion however, but I honestly prefer FIFA 10.

Default Camera: 5/10

This is where it all goes wrong, the camera view. For those who played previous FIFA games you will be disappointed in the default camera. I would recommend going to game settings and changing the camera view.

Team Variation: 5/10

I personally do not only want to play International teams. FIFA 10 brings out leagues and clubs, allowing a greater game experience. If you 'must' have this World Cup game, simply because it is the 'World Cup Teams' then let it be, but don't be expecting a great team variation, variation in gameplay and difficulty.

Tactics: 9.5/10

The tactics are what is expected from a FIFA game, allowing realism to be expressed with decisions made prior to the game, or during the game. Nothing special, and nothing different compared to FIFA 10.

OVERALL:

FIFA 10: 49/50

South Africa 2010: 37.5/50

Its an opinion, and I wont be there stopping you from buying South Africa 2010, but consider FIFA 10 before paying the same amount for South Africa, when you could be having a much greater gaming experience. Also keep in mind that FIFA 11 is around the corner, so you could save your big bucks for that, but don't expect much change in the gameplay for that either.

Till then, i'm out.
