More Bang for you Buck... or in this case, more girls in swimsuits hacking up Zombies.

Gameplay

Girl has Sword. Girl sees Zombie's. Girl hacks up Zombies. This game is a hack and slasher, up there with games like Devil May Cry 3. It's simple, but it does its job well. There's Zombie's, a LOT of Zombie's and as a variety of women, you have to teach these undead whose boss. The combat mechanics are easy to learn, but hard to completely master, but you never go unrewarded for your efforts. The difficulty levels are just right, with each difficulty level up providing a greater challenge, especially in the boss battles.

Graphics

For a budget title, you might expect the graphics to suffer, but they don’t in the slightest. The main heroine's look absolutely amazing and they all have a variety of different attires to unlock. The enemies too look wonderful, and while there's a lot of repetition, that's the downside to just how many of them you'll hack your way through during the game and it’s soon forgiven. Some of the levels look a little samey, but this is partly because you go through previous levels again, taking different routes, or because the level actually calls for it to look all very similar.

Sound

Absolutely amazing. The sound effects are great, and sound like you'd imagine they should, but it’s the music in this game that really shines through. With some stages taking close to an hour to complete if you're thorough, the music has to avoid being repetitive and dull, and it’s FAR from being either. All too often I find myself humming along to the songs of the different girls as I wade through the mass undead, and to this point, I still haven’t muted the music once.

Value

At a total import cost of just under £20/$30 this game deserves to be bought. With 5 difficulty settings, the latter 3 of which are increasingly brutal, and some quests that require dedication and skill to achieve, you'll not be seeing all this game has to offer any time soon. There might only be a handful of different levels, but with a total of 8 playable characters, each with their own moves, you'll find reason to keep coming back.

Overall

As a Budget Title, being part of the Simple 2000 Series, The Oneechanpon represents some of the best value for money in gaming in recent years. Sure, without knowledge of Japanese, it’s hard to know whets going on, but it’s not going to stop you having an utter blast with this game. If you have the ability to play Japanese PS2 games, you shouldn’t miss out on this.
