miniature Left 4 Dead

User Rating: 7.5 | Zombie Apocalypse X360
The Good:

Classic arcade-style shooter using the dual sticks to control your character and direction of fire. Very similar to many other dual-stick shooters (Geometry Wars) with impressive lighting effects, particle explosions, and environments.

The zombie backdrop has been done many times, but not in a style like this. The animations are simple but well done, with explosive gory effects as your weapons slice through hordes of zombies. Easy to pick up, fun to play (especially with friends), and a few different modes to shake things up. The pacing is frantic!

On top of just shooting zombies, you'll save the occassional survivor, lure zombies to environmental traps, and face different types of zombies who can take you down with knives and guns. Multi-player is especially exciting, with ridiculous amounts of zombies spawning at once. A wide variety of weapons are in the game.

The Bad:

Once you've seen the 7 different levels, the game just recycles them. All you do is just shoot, but doesn't give off a vibe of terror that Left 4 Dead does.

Probably a tad-bit too easy, the game can get more annoying than "challenging" given the length of the later levels and it's repeative nature. Once you've seen it all, which takes less than a few hours, there probably isn't much reason to stay because it'll just make you want to play Left 4 Dead.

The playable characters are not likelable and do silly celebration animations that aren't funny... it will make you groan having to listen and watch it over and over at the end of each level.

Overall:

A fun shooter. If you liked Geometry Wars and Left 4 Dead, you'll like this one. It's not incredibly deep, but it's a $10 arcade game. In sum, it's a fun, mindless game.
