User Rating: 7.5 | Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters: World Championship 2008 DS
Another year, another Yu-Gi-Oh! game for the DS. You're probably thinking to yourself "hey do I really need another Yu-Gi-Oh! game?". Well the answer is yes and no. Hardcore TCG fans who do or don't play the real life version of the game will find something to love in this. New cards from the Gladiator's Assault expansion plus the obligatory Nintendo Wi-fi multiplayer will keep you coming back. The casual anime watching crowd will be disappointed however because this game doesn't follow the plot of the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX anime like Yu-Gi-Oh! GX: The Spirit Caller did instead you get a story mode inspired by The Spirit Caller where you travel around various worlds dueling various monsters earning DP to buy packs.

The great thing about this game is you do have the option to either go the route of the story mode or just straight out duel in the World Championship mode but the game does force you to play through the somewhat tidious story mode because the only way to really unlock a lot cards and extra duelists in the game is by going through all the story mode events which consist of sit through text and wait to duel someone.

New to the 2008 edition is tag duels where you and your partner take turns playing the only rule is that you have to share the five monster and five (okay technically six) spell/trap card zones which creates a new layer of strategy. All dueling modes are playable through wi-fi (single, match, tag, and structure) as well as being able to download ghosts and extra cards and lists.

The game solid, graphics are colorful and once again it delivers on what it promises.
