User Rating: 7 | Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters: World Championship 2008 DS
I have a tendency to value aspects of Yu-Gi-Oh games a bit differently from any other type of game. I rank the card database in the game higher than most everything else, because as a Yu-gi-oh game, the cards included in the game can either make or break it .

Card database - 8/10

The cards you find in the game is a major factor of its replay value, and I'm a casual player myself, so I enjoy building as many different decks as possible. The card list for 2008 is somewhat of a mixed bad. The good news is, this game has all of the cards from the 2007 version, and then some. The problem is, you'll still find many missing cards. Some of the most notable cards not found are Volcanic Rocket, Zombie Master, Bazoo, Paladin of White Dragon, the Archfiends, and others. This game is still missing a lot of cards that appeared in the 2006 edition back on the GBA. However, I do find the cards that are in the game to be completely usable and I'm still able to build a wide variety of decks. Overall, could be better, could be worse.

Gameplay -9/10

If you know how Yu-gi-oh works, you know exactly what to expect gameplay wise. You summon monsters and use spell/trap cards to try and beat your opponent in this popular card game. This game features 2 modes: Duel World and World Championship.

In the duel world mode, you duel against randomly appearing duel spirits. Defeat them all, and some new challenge opens up. This is where you'll find duel puzzles, limitation duels, and theme duels that have appeared in previous Yu-gi-oh games. Complete the challenges, and move on to the next area. Beat the random spirits 5 times each and unlock a new opponent in world championship mode.

World Championship mode is pretty much the same as it was in the previous editions. Select your opponent, duel, beat enough of them 5 times each to unlock something else. Rinse and Repeat.

Story - N/A

People say duel world is the story mode, but I see duel world as just the same as world championship mode, only your opponents appear at random times. As for an actual story in duel world, you just keep dueling to get to the next area. There really isn't much of a story, so I'll just leave this at N/A

Sound - 6/10

Usually Yu-gi-oh games are filled with mediocre music. However, I find the music in duel world to be very catchy and upbeat. The music in world championship mode on the other hand, is the same mediocre music from the 2007 edition. The only other complaint I have in this area is there's a loud buzz sound everytime you enter the battle phase. You get kind of used to it, but it just feels awkward.

Contol -8/10

You select opponents, cards, ect. There's not much complexity to the controls. It is a bonus that you can use either the stylus or the d-pad/buttons, whatever you prefer.

Replayability - 10/10

There's tons of stuff to do in both duel world and world championship modes, most noteably the vast number of opponents you'll be facing. On top of that, you have 2000+ cards with which to build different decks with. When you get bored with all that, there's wifi. If you're familiar with the wifi of the 2007 edition, this game is pretty much the same. There's still various disconectors and AR users on wifi, but you can still use the friend code system to (hopefully) get around these issues.

Overall - 7/10

If you can get past the minor problems of some specific cards that are missing, you should find this game very enjoyable. If you're a fan of Yu-gi-oh, don't want to spend your money on the real cards, and still want to play against other people, this game is definatly for you.
