It'll cost you about £5 to buy a set of Yu-Gi-Oh cards, and you'll need about 3 Jumbo Jet's worth before you have enough cards to play, so why not buy one of the Game Boy titles instead? However, Yu-Gi-Oh isn't for everyone, you have to know the T.V. show, or play the card game to understand it, really. Konami, however, can't comprehend that, and don't tell you the rules in the game, so, you have to figure it yourself if you've never played before and I'm sure thousands of you haven't.

The game is based on the series of the T.V. show when Kaiba holds a Yu-Gi-Oh tournament called "Battle City" You play as... well, you really as you battle to obtain "Locator Cards" (Fanciful) so you can find out where the finals are. Most of the main characters from the T.V. series are here, including, Yugi, Joey, Tea, Kaiba, Mokubah (I don't care how you spell it, he's a gimp anyway) and Marik. Your deck is really, really, really bad at the start, but with time (And buying a lot of cards) it'll get better. You fight villans from the T.V. series and some friends make an appearance. Familiar characters, like Mako, Underwood, and even Lumis and Umbra are there.

Building a deck can be tedious. You fight that Tristan bloke, and other people to gain "Deck Capacity" points. But, you need about 5 million points to have a good deck or to be considered half good. Some cards are missing from the trading card game, and some cards have effects they didn't have in the trading card game.

The characters speak rather peculiarly like this guy called Mako, after you beat him at the aquarium, he appears at the port. When you challenge him to a duel, the first thing he tells me about is "Watching the sea calms his soul" I'm sure I'll sleep easy tonight… And I have a problem with that Mokubah gimp. He has a HUGE attitude problem, is so commanding and then expects you to save him. What a little berk! He's even worse at the end…

It may be Japanese, but what is with those hairstyles? How come a guy has grey hair (he looks about 8) and has long black hair at the back… just too weird…

Graphics- 8/10
Not bad, not bad at all, in fact rather nice. There are good shading effects and the sprites don't look too squashed or too thin.

Gameplay- 7/10
It's fancy playing cards isn't it? It's far too complicated for newbies, but veterans will feel right at home.

Sound-6/10
Annoying tunes. However, it redeems itself with the SF at the Pier. The final duel music is obviously intended to scare you, but fails to deliver.

Value-5/10
Nothing to do once you've finished the game, apart from building a deck, BORING

- Veterans will feel at home
- Don't need to spend about 100000 quid to build a deck
- You get 3 free cards with the game!
Cons
- Music gets on your nerves.
- Bad hairstyles
- They speak weird…
- Joey is still annoying and acts like a berk.

So, would I recommend this game? Not really. It's not that great and n00bs will struggle
