With the release of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, a new concept of dueling was revealed. Turbo Dueling. The main differences consist of the always present Speed World field spell card and the addition of Speed counters, which are necessary to use the new Speed Spell cards. It's a fresh twist in the game and it works well. The problem? You don't get to use this style of dueling until the very end of the game. You get one practice duel before entering in a Turbo Dueling tournament AT THE END OF THE GAME. Now if you are not well versed in this style of dueling then you will be a bit lost in the beginning(or rather the end). But,again, it's not overly complicated and if you can luck your way through a few rounds you will be fine figuring the rest out.
Aside from the late Turbo duels, the game also offers classic World Championship mode with solid options of Tag Duels, Tournaments, and classic dueling. I won't tell you the game doesn't glitch or slowdown (lay a card or end your turn!!), but the gameplay is still solid and even the new RPG-like Story Mode is fun. So fans and newbies alike will enjoy this years version though if you have never played before, use the tutorial. Story Mode doesn't offer it so go straight to World Championship and get the basics. With 2800 cards and customization options galore, this game makes for a very solid and fun, though sometimes frustrating, experience.
