With all due respect to FFVII and VIII, this is the best rpg on the PS1.

Xenogears quietly came out in 1997 to little fanfare, which is unfortunate. With all due respect to Final Fantasy 7-9, this is easily the best rpg on the PS1. This game had one of the most controversial (at the time) and best story lines of any game. The characters were well thought out and not one was an after after thought. Each character was relevant to the story. The graphics were a little rough, but the anime cut scenes were cool. The gameplay was great, as you could fight battles in huge "Gears", with each Gear having its own look and feel and also lead to some strategic planning during battles. Its unfortunate that Xenosaga couldn't capture the same magic as this game had, I would have loved to have had a five part series of this game, with a remake of Xenogears. This game is long and engrossing, anyone who missed out should really try to track this game down and play it. I would suggest playing it on a psp with remote play, as the graphics are a little more bearable on the small screen. The game's graphics haven't aged well, and if you have an HDTV, the graphics are downright horrid. That being said, it looks decent on a standard TV, but graphics aren't everything, this is truly a great game that shouldn't be missed.
