A modest, overpriced improvement

User Rating: 7 | XCOM: Enemy Within PC

X-COM Enemy Within expansion brings some nice new additions to the original X-COM Enemy Unknown game. There are new aliens, a host of new weapons and technologies, and a new shadowy organization, EXALT, to contend with. These elements certainly do improve the original game and enhance its re-playability through increased tactical and strategic options. However, these improvements are modest and game balance issues are a problem here. Enemy Within becomes increasingly unbalanced toward the second half of the game as the X-COM forces under your command become quite capable and begin to easily overpower alien and EXALT opponents. Nonetheless, the EXALT faction can be a bit of a challenge at times and fighting against them was my favorite part of this expansion. However, the aliens were not sufficiently enhanced to be much of a significant threat to your new souped-up X-COM troopers. Lastly, the final raid to destroy the EXALT base of operations was a pretty ho-hum affair and on the easier side of things...which was bit of a let down especially when compared to other EXALT missions and destroying the alien base. In summary, Enemy Within does bring a few nice new improvements to this game, but probably does not justify the $29.99 price I paid for it.
