Basically a better version of XCOM1

User Rating: 9 | XCOM 2 PC

XCOM 2 has the benefit of having a very solid predecessor to build off of. XCOM1 had an interesting premise, with solid gameplay, character customization, and fun overall tactics. All XCOM2 had to do was improve the formula, and that's what it did. In the sequel, there are more classes, new sets of upgrades, better graphics/customization options, and an overhead map/base that feels great, and really comes together.

The 'one more turn' XCOM addiction is just as great as its always been. I do have some gripes, but I admit that in the grand scheme of things, they are rather minor. By far, the biggest problem was lag. I have a rather strong rig; not top of the line by any means, but I can usually play everything on high settings. XCOM2 still runs well after tweaking, but the lag is definitely noticeable, especially in comparison to XCOM1. This isn't altogether unreasonable, however, because afterall, XCOM2 looks a lot better than XCOM1, but ultimately, lag still does have a rather strong 'buzzkill' effect. The reviewer mentioned having similar problems, so I can't really write it off as being a personal-only issue.

Ultimately, however, XCOM2 is a solid game that is totally worth your time if you enjoyed the first game. The more mature atmosphere and setting really does bring the world of XCOM to life, more than ever before.
