Amazing fun, highly addictive, and easily the best X Men game I've played to date.

... although to be fair, there haven't been many amazing X Men games. This is one of the very few! Reason alone to buy it.

So, the positives. Gameplay has a relatively short learning curb, took me about 20 to 30 minutes and from then on it's plain sailing, very accessible (minus the RPG thing and levelling up, more on this later). Loading screens are *very* short (at least they are on my laptop), and not too frequent. Combat, which is the game's main focus, is very fun, fluid and varied. Few battles require any planning, which I think keeps things fast-paced rather than making gameplay go stale. Graphics won't blow you away but they're more than adequate, regardless. Effort has been made on the storyline, there's plenty of twists spread across the entire thing to keep stuff interesting. Contrary to some reviews, I personally liked the level design! Each area has a different theme, there's different obstacles, different colours, and ultimately plenty of places to explore on each one. Also there are plenty of extras to unlock, such as (yep, you guessed it) alternative costumes and Danger Room courses.

The negatives? Thankfully they're much fewer than the positives but sadly there's still a fair few. Firstly, voice acting and script. I suppose the voice acting is a bit cartoonish and you *could* overlook it in favour of Patrick Stewart reprising his role as Professor X, the two you really want to block out however are Magneto and Rogue. The script though, is horrendous. Cringeworthy one liners plague some of the cutscenes (which thankfully, are few and far between). To be honest I think it's really been aimed at a younger generation, and as an 18-year old who dabbles in a couple of comics here and there and follows the movies it can make you feel a bit awkward listening to Wolverine calling Juggernaught "bub" and exchanging childish threats with him. But oh well, life goes on.

Negative number two, I'd say, is that when putting your team of X-Men/Brotherhood mutants together, you can very easily overlook some of the less useful mutants and just stick to the most powerful mutants. Ok, some will naturally be tougher than others, but some are *totally* useless. Example one, Scarlet Witch. I'm sorry, but she's useless. Pyro and Sunfire - almost exactly the same and, you guessed it, useless. Bishop - rubbish, boring, useless.

There's plenty of replay-value in being able to mix and match teams for the best combination, though. I'm on play-through two - it's still win.

Finally, negative number three: very disappointing final boss battle. It felt a bit like an anti-climax and it was *very* unbalanced. Again, life goes on. The rest of the game makes up for it by miles.

The RPG element of the game thoroughly confused me. The stats made no sense, what I was supposed to upgrade made no sense, what gear was good and what gear was rubbish was also not very clear. Much easier to put it on auto and let the game level your characters up, distributed your gear, select your skills etc. Unless you understand the ins and outs of such things.

Other than all that I don't think there's anything else to say! Well worth investing in if you're a solo player (I haven't tried multiplayer/online play yet) and even an occasional fan of the series. Love this game, will be playing it until I can afford Arkham Asylum (ie. quite a long time). Recommended.
